Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) participated in the Annual Meeting of the Passage to ASEAN (P2A) Indonesia Chapter, held at Telkom University, Bandung, on April 16–17, 2026.
At the event, UMSU was represented by Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation, Dr. Rudianto. The university’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to expanding international networks, particularly within the Southeast Asian region.
This year, the P2A Indonesia Chapter Annual Meeting 2026 carried the theme “Strengthening Regional Mobility through Alignment, Reciprocity, and Sustainability.” The theme highlights the importance of enhancing regional mobility among universities through program alignment, mutual collaboration, and sustainable partnerships.
P2A is a regional higher education network in ASEAN with more than 130 member universities. Established in 2012 and headquartered in Vietnam, UMSU has been part of the network since 2023 and has actively engaged in various programs and activities within the organization.
The 2026 Annual Meeting was attended by several prominent university leaders. Among them were the Rector of Telkom University, Prof. Dr. Suyanto, widely recognized as an expert in artificial intelligence in Indonesia, and the Rector of Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), Prof. Dr. Fathul Wahid. Also present were Dr. Rini Setiowati, MBA, Vice Rector of BINUS University and Secretariat of the P2A Indonesia Chapter, along with other university leaders.
During the meeting, representatives from 15 P2A member universities in Indonesia gathered to evaluate organizational activities over the past year and to strengthen future program directions and collaborations. Key discussions covered student and faculty mobility programs, joint research initiatives, and various collaborative activities among member institutions.
In addition to the evaluation agenda, participants gained insights from Prof. Dr. Fathul Wahid on the internationalization of higher education. The event continued with a sharing session, where each member institution presented their experiences, achievements, and future plans for international collaboration.
UMSU’s participation in this forum is expected to enhance its active role in the regional higher education network and expand opportunities for academic collaboration, student and faculty mobility, and inter-university partnerships across ASEAN.
