Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) continues to demonstrate its commitment to community service by distributing humanitarian aid to residents affected by flooding in Alur Jambu Village, Bandar Pusaka Subdistrict, Aceh Tamiang Regency, on Tuesday (23/12).
This initiative reflects UMSU’s response to the emergency situation caused by the floods and its concern for easing the burden of affected communities. The assistance provided included basic necessities, moral support, and the establishment of a health post for residents who remain in evacuation areas.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, S.Sos., M.Si., stated that UMSU’s presence in the community goes beyond delivering aid, emphasizing empathy and solidarity. “UMSU is present not only as an educational institution but also as part of the community. We hope this assistance can help ease the burden of our brothers and sisters affected by the disaster and reassure them that they are not facing this situation alone,” he said.
He further emphasized that community service is a fundamental value upheld by UMSU, particularly during disaster situations. Going forward, UMSU remains committed to actively participating in humanitarian actions and cross-sector collaborations to support post-disaster recovery.
Through this initiative, UMSU hopes to foster a spirit of mutual cooperation, solidarity, and social awareness, while strengthening the role of higher education institutions as humanitarian agents that create a tangible impact on society.
