UMSU Faculty of Law Holds Legal Counseling in Percut Village
The Faculty of Law, University of Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) carried out Community Service in the form of providing legal counseling to Percut Village residents at the Percut Village Arts Building, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deliserdang Regency, Friday (4/6).
Chairman of the Committee, Mhd Teguh Syuhada Lubis SH MH, explained that this activity was the first session of 3 (three) community service agendas that will be held by the Faculty of Law UMSU in 2021.
“Session 2 will be planned to be held in Badur Village / Sungai Deli Kec. Medan Maimun Medan City, June 14 to 19, 2021. Moreover, we will carry out Session 3 in Belawan Village, Medan Belawan Subdistrict, from June 21 to 26, 2021,” he explained.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Law UMSU, Dr. Ida Hanifah SH MH, said that this community service activity is a form of implementation of the Tri Darma of Higher Education carried out by the Faculty of Law UMSU.
“Now UMSU is the best private university in North Sumatra with an A Institutional Accreditation rating. Alhamdulillah, the Faculty of Law is one of the leading and favorite faculties, which is also accredited by A. So it is our commitment to always be able to contribute to society, including through this community service activity, “said Ida Hanifah, whom WD I Dr Faisal SH MHum and WD III Dr Zainuddin SH MH accompanied.
Ida Hanifah thanked all the residents of Percut Village for cooperating in organizing this activity.
“Even though now we are still in a pandemic condition, it does not become an obstacle for us to continue to organize positive activities, of course, by adhering to health protocols,” she said.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, the Head of Percut Village, Asyhari Syah, thanked the UMSU Faculty of Law for choosing Percut Village as the location for organizing its activities.
“This is an honor for us. In the future, this silaturrahim relationship will continue to be established, and we pray that the Faculty of Law UMSU will be more successful in producing graduates who are professional and have the competence and are useful for the nation and society,” he said.
Asyhari said this legal counseling activity is significant and beneficial for increasing public insight related to law.
“Our country is a state of law. So, ordinary citizens certainly need to continue to be educated so that they are legally literate, at least about their lives,” Asyhari said.
At the end of the opening ceremony, the leadership of the Faculty of Law UMSU handed over a souvenir plaque to the Head of Percut Village.
It was then continued with the symbolic handover of basic food packages to residents’ representatives. This basic food package is a donation from UMSU Faculty of Law lecturers who have social care and empathy for the economic conditions of the people affected by the Covid 19 pandemic, which is still ongoing.
The Importance of Marriage Registration
In the legal counseling presentation session, 3 (three) UMSU Faculty of Law lecturers appeared as resource persons, namely Harisman SH MH, M Syukran Yamin Lubis SH Cn MKn, and Muklis SH MH.
The three speakers conveyed to the residents of Percut Village the urgency of marriage registration.
The speakers explained that marriage registration is essential for the validity of marriage because a registered marriage will provide legal certainty and protection for the husband, wife, and children.
In addition, marriage registration also provides guarantees and protection of certain rights arising from marriage, such as the rights of the husband, wife, and children.
Certain rights arise from marriage, including the right to inherit, the right to obtain a birth certificate, a living allowance, and so on.
This community service activity, which took place solemnly with health protocols, was also attended by dozens of other UMSU Faculty of Law lecturers.
