Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) and Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Ipoh Malaysia held a cultural exchange titled ‘Bridging Cultures, Building Knowledge between UMSU and IPGM Ipoh, Malaysia.’ The event took place on Friday (20/12) at the UMSU Auditorium on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3 Medan.
The event was a collaboration between UMSU and Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Ipoh, Malaysia. Focusing on strengthening cultural and educational ties, the event wowed the audience through various art performances and knowledge sharing sessions.
UMSU Rector Prof. Dr Agussani, MAP, represented by UMSU OIC Secretary Muhammad Syahreza Hafiz, M.Acc, delivered his remarks,
‘We are very open to further cooperation with IPGM IPOH in the field of education. If there are brothers who want to study at UMSU, we have excellent faculties that are ready to welcome them. Welcome, enjoy this cultural exchange, and hopefully this event will bring happiness to all of us.’ Hafiz said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Ipoh Campus IPGM Student Affairs Department, Abdul Razaq bin Rachman, emphasised the importance of this programme as a bridge of culture and knowledge.
‘This is a wonderful opportunity to share knowledge and culture between IPGM Ipoh and UMSU. I am sure collaborations like this will continue to grow in the future,’ he said.
As a symbol of appreciation and friendship, UMSU presented a plaque to Abdul Razaq bin Rachman. This moment confirms the commitment of the two institutions in strengthening cooperative relations in the fields of education and culture.
Then, traditional dances from Indonesia and Malaysia were performed. The dancers’ energetic and graceful performances managed to create an enchanting atmosphere. One of the performances that stole the show was the Malaysian Cindai dance, which presented the beauty of Malay culture brilliantly.

The event closed with the enthusiasm of participants who hoped that similar collaborations would continue, bringing great benefits to both countries. Present was IPGM IPOH Malaysia’s Deputy Head of Student Affairs Department, En. Manimaran A/L Vadivelu, Management Officer and Coordinator of Cross Cultural Dynamics Programme En. Muhammad Affandi bin Md Ujang, President of the Student Representative Committee Muhammad Aiman Arif bin Abu Bakar, staff of the Student Affairs Department and staff of the IPGM Ipoh Campus Student Representative Committee.
