Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, represented by Vice Rector III Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si, officially sent off 59 Law Faculty students to participate in the International Community Service Program (KKN) in Thailand. The ceremony took place on Tuesday (Sept 2) at UMSU’s Meeting Hall, Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan.
The departure of participants will be carried out in three waves: the first on September 4, the second in November, and the third in December.
In his remarks, Vice Rector III Dr. Rudianto emphasized the importance of internationalization for students. He noted that the international KKN is not merely a community service activity but also a platform for personal development relevant to future career demands.
“Congratulations to all participants who have reached this stage. This international KKN is certainly not an ordinary program. Internationalization is of great importance for us,” said Dr. Rudianto.
He highlighted three key aspects students must gain: first, acquiring new skills to remain competitive in the job market; second, the value of international exposure as global opportunities increasingly prioritize internationalization; third, building international networks, and fourth, enhancing career opportunities.
“Take care of your health and uphold the good reputation of our university while carrying out this program. If you face any difficulties, do not hesitate to coordinate with your supervising lecturer,” he reminded.
He further urged students to maximize this opportunity. “Make the most of this KKN experience—not only to enrich your academic journey but also to broaden your social and cultural knowledge,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dean of the Law Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faisal, S.H., M.Hum, reported that this program is a concrete step in supporting campus internationalization while providing both academic and social experiences for students.
“We report to the Rector that 59 Law Faculty students will depart for Thailand in three waves. We hope this program will broaden their horizons and experiences, not only academically but also socially and culturally,” he stated.
Through this International KKN, UMSU expects its students to serve as academic and cultural ambassadors, bringing honor to the university while strengthening international networks.
