Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) continues to expand its strategic partnerships with industry. This commitment was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMSU and PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Tbk, followed by a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Faculty of Engineering (FT) and the state-owned construction company.
The event, held at the UMSU Auditorium on Monday (April 27), was combined with the ADHI Teaching Program and Collaborative Research Initiative, featuring Ir. Siswanto, ST, MMT, General Manager of the Railway Department at PT Adhi Karya, as the keynote speaker.
The event was attended by Vice Rector III Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Assoc. Prof. Ade Faisal, ST, M.Si, Ph.D, Vice Dean I Dr. Khairul Umurani, ST, MT, Vice Dean III Affandi, ST, MT, heads of study programs, lecturers, and hundreds of engineering students.
The MoU was signed by UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP and the President Director of PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Tbk, Moeharmein Zein Chaniago, who was represented on this occasion by the Director of Risk Management and Systems, Ir. Yan Arianto, ST, MM.
Meanwhile, the MoA covering teaching and research collaboration was signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Ade Faisal, together with the Head of Adhi Learning Center, Ir. Tanti Indriastuti, ST, MM, and the Director of Human Capital & Legal of PT Adhi Karya, Ki Syahgolang Permata.
In addition to the signing ceremony, PT Adhi Karya also provided educational assistance to outstanding students through its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program. The scholarships were awarded to three high-achieving students: Maura Fryschylla, Zafira Camila, and Aurelio Khairullah Zulkarnain.
In his remarks, Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani expressed appreciation and pride in the establishment of this strategic partnership.
“This collaboration is an important step in strengthening synergy between higher education and industry. We are also proud that the President Director of PT Adhi Karya, Mr. Moeharmein Zein Chaniago, is an alumnus of UMSU’s Faculty of Engineering,” he said.
He emphasized that such collaborations are crucial in enhancing student competencies through training programs, national seminars, and direct industry involvement in the learning process.
Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Adhi Karya, represented by Ir. Yan Arianto, stated that the company is ready to share practical insights from real construction projects with students.

“As a national construction company with decades of experience delivering major infrastructure projects, we aim to provide applied, experience-based knowledge so that students gain a clear understanding of real industry practices,” he explained.

He also highlighted that universities today must evolve into impactful institutions—producing not only graduates but also innovation, entrepreneurship, social solutions, and tangible contributions to regional and national development.
According to him, UMSU has strong potential to grow into a leading and impactful university, especially given its strategic position in North Sumatra.
PT Adhi Karya also encouraged strengthening key aspects such as aligning curricula with industry needs, applied research, internship and job placement programs, student business incubation, and strategic partnerships with state-owned enterprises, private sectors, and local governments.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Ade Faisal, emphasized the importance of this collaboration for improving academic quality and student competencies.
He encouraged all engineering students to take advantage of the ADHI Teaching Program as a platform to learn directly from industry practitioners.

“This is a valuable opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge, enhance their competencies, and better understand real-world job requirements,” he said.
In the final session, the ADHI Teaching Program featured a practitioner lecture titled “Construction Methods for Long-Span Flyover Bridges,” delivered by Ir. Siswanto, ST, MMT and moderated by Ir. Tondi Amirsyah Putera, ST, MM, IPM.
The auditorium was filled with enthusiasm, as students actively engaged in discussions and asked questions throughout the session.
This collaboration is expected to serve as a strong foundation for strengthening the synergy between academia and industry in producing engineering graduates who are excellent, adaptive, and ready to face the challenges of the professional world.
