UMSU Press Launches Book “Social Policy and Planning in Indonesia”
The launching and book review of “Social Policy and Planning in Indonesia” took place successfully at the Sisha Room, Madani Hotel Medan, Jalan Sisingamangaraja Medan, Wednesday (24/3).
The Regent of Batubara, Ir. H Zahir, MAP, UMSU Rector, Dr. Agussani, M.AP and Head of LLDIKTI Region I, Prof Dr Ibnu Hajar, M.Si appreciated the publication of the book by UMSU The Faculty of Social Science and Politics (FISIP) lecturers, Dr Mohd Yusri, M.Si and Drs H Syaiful Syari, MM.
Present were Unimed Professor, Prof. Dr. Effendi Napitupulu, MPd, Dr. Umar Zein, Dr. Indra Nasution, female figures and social care, and Yenni Darmawan. At the same time, distinguishing this book, USU Postgraduate Lecturer Parapat Gultom, PhD and UMSU Vice Rector III, Dr. Rudianto, MSi.
The author of the book, Drs Syaiful Syafri, MM, said that he and Dr. Mohd Yusri had both been in the bureaucracy, had made policies, and carried out planning movements. “I decided social policy when in Batubara Regency when I was Acting Regent of Batubara and Head of the Social Service,” said Syaiful Syafri.
For this reason, Syaiful Syafri and Mohd Yusri finally agreed to publish the book “Social Policy and Planning in Indonesia.” Mohd Yusri conveyed that this book consists of 7 chapters with 215 pages whose contents concern understanding of social policy in Indonesia, understanding policy, social policy, understanding planning in general, and social welfare development.
UMSU Rector, Dr. Agussani, MAP, appreciated the launching and book review of “Social Policy and Planning in Indonesia,” which was attended by the Regent of Batubara, where the book was also written about how the success tips of the Regent of Batubara, Ir. Zahir, MAP is a UMSU alumni in reducing poverty and developing human resources for PKH participants’ children to continue their higher education at UMSU.
The Head of LLDIKTI, Prof. Dr. Ibnu Hajar, MSi, said that the transformation of higher education with the Merdeka Learning Campus program is the spirit of transformation. UMSU has done that. Transformation is a holistic graduate issue, not only quality. The Head of LLDIKTI appreciates UMSU’s steps, which are now a role model for outstanding campuses. Through UMSU Press, he will convey to PTS lecturers that there are good, quality, and affordable university publishers.
Book reviewer Parapat Gultom, Ph.D., said the two authors were, at the beginning, practitioners and then became academics. This is a different color because both are former officials. What is unique about the book is that it is written based on field facts, not merely theoretical concepts. Many books are developed by theory but depart from actual problems in the field. The locus is Indonesia. Foreign authors write many books. However, this book has Indonesian nuances and is based on everyday problems—the results of the author’s experience as a social worker and observer.
Dr. Rudianto, MAP conveyed important input later in this book, looking at future developments related to people with social problems, not solely economic issues, but reflecting on what many experts think: people with social problems are the millennial generation, generation z, and not like what we faced and the past. So, this is an input to the improvement of this book in the future.
