The University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra (UMSU) has successfully entered the QS Asia University Rankings (AUR) 2026, placing among the top 450 universities in Asia. In the official list announced during the QS Asia Pacific Summit at Korea University, Seoul, on 4–6 November 2025, UMSU was ranked 445th in Asia, 87th in ASEAN, and 19th in Indonesia.

The QS Asia 2026 assessment involved 1,526 universities across 25 countries in Asia, including 91 institutions from Indonesia. The evaluation was based on eleven key indicators, covering academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty–student ratio, proportion of faculty with doctoral degrees, research productivity and impact, and international research collaboration. QS also assessed campus internationalization through the number of international students and faculty, as well as inbound and outbound student mobility with partner universities worldwide.

Based on these indicators, UMSU stood out in international student exchange performance. QS awarded a perfect score of 100 for Outbound Exchange Students and a score of 90.8 for Inbound Exchange Students, positioning UMSU among the most active universities in Southeast Asia in terms of international student mobility. In addition, UMSU’s academic reputation was notable, earning a score of 66.2—reflecting strong recognition from regional and global academic communities for the quality of its education and research.

UMSU Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.A.P., expressed his gratitude for this achievement. According to him, the success is the result of hard work and collaboration across the entire academic community, along with UMSU’s consistent efforts in building international networks in recent years.

“UMSU’s entry into the top 450 universities in Asia is clear evidence that our direction in pursuing internationalization is on the right track. This achievement is the result of sustained international collaboration through research partnerships, faculty and student exchanges, and strategic cooperation with universities abroad,” said Prof. Agussani.

He further emphasized that this accomplishment aligns with UMSU’s 2033 Roadmap, which aims to position the university as a globally recognized institution with strong academic, research, and international collaboration capabilities.

“UMSU is now beginning to see the results of its long-term commitment to building a global network. We will not stop here, because our goal is clear: to become a World-Class University by 2033,” he added.

At the QS Asia Pacific Summit 2025, a gathering of university leaders from across the Asia–Pacific region, UMSU was represented by Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation, Dr. Rudianto, S.Sos., M.Si. He joined university delegates from various countries and participated in discussion sessions focused on cross-border collaboration in education and research.

“UMSU’s participation in this forum is an important momentum to strengthen our position at the Asian level while opening new opportunities for cooperation in education, research, and innovation,” he said.
