Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) has received a donation of Rp100 million to support the construction of the K.H. Ahmad Dahlan Mosque at its integrated campus. The contribution was made by the family of the late Prof. dr. Harun Rasyid Lubis, Sp.PD, K-GH, through support from Maybank Syariah. The symbolic handover took place on Friday (April 10) at the meeting room of the UMSU campus on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan.
The donation was presented by Dra. Siti Asrah Siregar, owner of Rasyida Kidney Hospital and wife of the late Prof. Harun—widely known as the “father of nephrology” in Medan—accompanied by Azhari and the Maybank Syariah team. The contribution was received directly by UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, along with Vice Rector I Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, M.Hum, Vice Rector II Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd, and Vice Rector III Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si.
Representing the family, Azhari explained that their intention to contribute began after seeing information about the mosque construction on social media.
“Some time ago, we came across information on social media, which moved us. After connecting with Maybank, we were able to take part in supporting the mosque’s construction,” he said.
He added that the family’s close connection with UMSU was also a motivating factor.
“My child is an alumnus of UMSU’s Faculty of Medicine. If we are blessed with more means, we hope to continue contributing in the future,” he added.
The family of the late Prof. Harun expressed hope that the mosque construction would proceed smoothly and be completed soon.
Meanwhile, UMSU Rector Prof. Agussani expressed deep appreciation and emotion over the support from the family.
“I have known Prof. Harun since the construction of Muhammadiyah Hospital. He consistently set aside part of his income to support mosque development. This meeting is truly meaningful for us, and I sincerely feel the love and dedication of him and Mrs. Asrah toward Muhammadiyah,” he said.
He explained that the construction of the K.H. Ahmad Dahlan Mosque is part of a directive from the Muhammadiyah Central Board in preparation for the upcoming Muhammadiyah Congress (Muktamar).
The Rector also emphasized that the donation represents a significant trust for the institution.
“We are proud to collaborate with Maybank. This is a mandate, and it will belong to the organization and bring broad benefits to the community,” he stated.
Prof. Agussani also prayed that the good deeds of Prof. Harun’s family would be rewarded and continue to inspire others.
Previously, Head of Sharia Retail Business at Maybank Sumbagut, Muhadsyah, S.E., explained that the donation reflects synergy among customers.
“Alhamdulillah, UMSU is already one of our customers at Maybank Syariah. UMSU is not new to us. Through our customers who wish to contribute, this donation is channeled from one customer to another,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Maybank Regional Director Herlina Sari noted that the collaboration serves as an opportunity to strengthen relationships among stakeholders.
“Maybank provides both conventional and sharia services, which help foster and extend our partnerships. We hope the strong relationship among our customers will continue and that this collaboration will grow in the future,” she said.
The event concluded with the symbolic handover of the donation and a group photo session.
