The Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP handed over Rp1.4 billion in scientific publication incentives to 300 lecturers. Previously, incentives of Rp1.4 billion batch 1 were handed over to 202 lecturers, so that the total incentives that have been handed over are 2.8 billion.
The activity of handing over incentives for lecturers’ scientific publications was held at the Campus on Jalan Kapt. Muchtar Basri No.3 Medan, Tuesday (25/3).
The submission of this incentive aims to motivate and reward the scientific work of permanent lecturers. The scientific publications that are given incentives are in the form of Journals, Proceedings, IPR, Books, Journals from Thesis / Thesis / Dissertation to Journal Management.
UMSU Rector, Prof. Agusani in his speech emphasised the importance of this incentive programme in improving the performance and academic recognition of the university.
‘What we are doing today is not just providing incentives, but also part of a strategy to continue to improve the university’s reputation at the national and international levels. This programme will continue in 2025 with a larger allocation of funds,’ he said.
Prof Agusani also said that this incentive is a form of appreciation from the university to lecturers who have worked hard in research and publications.
‘We hope this incentive can motivate lecturers to be more active in producing quality research. However, I also remind lecturers that the entire research process should be conducted with proper academic ethics. Plagiarism and violations of the code of ethics will not be tolerated,’ he said.
He also reminded that UMSU continues to strive to improve the university’s competitiveness through various strategic initiatives, including strengthening research and community service programmes, as well as cooperation with industry and government agencies.
‘We continue to encourage lecturers to be more active in applying for research grants both at the national and international levels. Currently, there are still around 200 lecturers who have not applied for Higher Education grants, and this is a great opportunity that should be utilised,’ he added.
Previously, the Head of LPPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fitra Jambak, M.Sc, expressed his gratitude for the continuation of this programme.
‘Alhamdulillah, today we can hand over scientific publication incentives to lecturers who have contributed to improving the academic quality of UMSU,’ he said.
He highlighted the development of the number of UMSU publications in the Scopus index as of 25 March which showed that the number of publication documents in Scopus increased to 594, compared to 580 in January 2025.
‘This is a significant achievement for the university in improving the quality of research and academic collaboration. In addition, we also noted that the number of lecturers who have Scopus IDs reached 374 people, after a re-mapping process of accounts that had been lost,’ he added.
The Head of LPPM also emphasised the importance of international collaboration in research. Currently, UMSU has collaborated with University Malaysia Perlis, University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, and University Sains Malaysia, with the number of collaborative documents reaching more than 50 publications.
‘Collaboration between our universities and overseas institutions also continues to increase. This is one of the important indicators in world university rankings,’ he explained.
The handover of incentives was carried out symbolically by UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MPA and Vice Rector II Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd to lecturers who received incentives in various schemes including.

This scientific publication incentive programme is one of UMSU’s efforts to encourage the improvement of research quality and academic competitiveness at the national and international levels.
