The Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.A.P., distributed 122 Ramadan gift packages to orphaned children during the closing of the Ramadan 1447 H religious gathering at Masjid Taqwa, Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan, on Saturday (March 14).
This activity formed part of the university’s religious outreach while also strengthening spiritual values within the campus community during the holy month of Ramadan.
Prior to closing the event, Prof. Agussani expressed appreciation to the Mosque Management Board for successfully organizing the series of Ramadan activities.
“We are grateful that this Ramadan gathering has run well and has become part of the university’s da’wah and religious outreach,” he said.
He also encouraged future innovations in organizing Ramadan programs to make them more engaging and impactful.
“I hope that in the future, this program will introduce new innovations so that it becomes a distinctive icon that strengthens UMSU’s excellence,” he added.
A variety of Ramadan programs were carried out, including communal iftar (breaking the fast), post-noon religious lectures, congregational tarawih prayers, and the distribution of Ramadan gifts for orphaned children. This year, the number of beneficiaries increased significantly—from 50 children in the previous year to 122 recipients.
Additionally, international students Mahmud Lawan from Nigeria and Abdul Salam from the United Kingdom expressed their gratitude to UMSU for its continuous support, ranging from campus iftar programs to involvement in social outreach activities in Aceh Tamiang.
The final session featured a sermon delivered by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qorib, M.A., and was moderated by Muhammad Rafi’i, S.Pd., M.A.
Also in attendance were Vice Rector I Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, M.Hum., Vice Rector III Dr. Rudianto, M.Si., Chairman of the Mosque Management Board Dr. Zailani, M.A., the Rector’s advisory staff, as well as deans and vice deans from across UMSU.
