The Rector of the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra (UMSU), Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.A.P., officially sent off six delegations for the National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) and four teams for the Indonesian Student Entrepreneurship (KMI) Expo to compete at the national level. The event also included an awards ceremony for outstanding students, held at the UMSU Auditorium on Jl. Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan, on Thursday (13/11).
In his remarks, Prof. Agussani encouraged the teams departing for the National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) at Hasanuddin University in Makassar and the KMI Expo at Tidar University in Magelang.
He reminded the students that they would be competing with top public and private universities across Indonesia, but emphasized that they should not be afraid and must remain confident. “Our university is now gaining national attention—not only in creativity-based achievements like this but also in institutional recognition. Our QS Asia ranking is 445, 87 in ASEAN, and 19 nationally,” he stated.
“We will face strong rivals: UI, Gadjah Mada, ITB, IPB, and USU. But I am grateful that the name of the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra is now part of that lineup. This means our ranking truly reflects our capabilities,” he added.
The UMSU Rector noted that the university places no pressure on the students, as any achievement they bring home is part of the institution’s success. “I am not demanding that you win medals. Reaching the finals is already a historic achievement for the university. But if you win gold, of course, that would be an extraordinary bonus,” he said.
During the event, Rector Prof. Agussani, together with Vice Rector III Dr. Rudianto, M.Si., and accompanied by Head of the Student Affairs Bureau Abdurrahman Zuhdi, M.I.Kom., presented certificates of appreciation and thesis exemptions to seven outstanding students, as well as recognition awards to six winners of the 2025 National MTQ Competition (MTQMN) and nine karate athletes who have brought pride to the university.
Previously, Head of the Student Affairs and Alumni Bureau, Abdurrahman Zuhdi, reported that this year’s achievements marked a new record for the campus—particularly as it was the first time UMSU reached the national finals of the Pilmapres competition, alongside achievements in MTQMN, karate championships, and KBMK finalists.
Meanwhile, SRCC Chair Dr. Fatimah Sari Siregar, S.Pd., M.Hum., who supervised the Pilmapres, PKM, and PPK Ormawa participants, shared that 20 teams secured funding, six teams qualified for PIMNAS, and six teams for the PPK Ormawa program.
“We also received recognition as the most productive university in the PKM Award. One of UMSU’s lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture also served as a PIMNAS judge.”
Representative of the 2025 KMI Expo qualifiers, Laila—the owner of a crab farming business—shared her experience participating in the P2MW program and the KMI Expo. She expressed hope that UMSU would once again achieve national recognition. “We hope the four teams representing UMSU can bring home certificates, trophies, and proudly raise the UMSU flag in Magelang.”
The event was attended by the Chair of PUSKIIBI, Assoc. Prof. Dewi Adriani, S.E., M.M., Vice Deans III from various faculties, supervising lecturers, and all outstanding students.
