Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara received an original 4 Stars certificate from the well-known higher education ranking institution Quacquarelli Symonds or QS. The certificate was immediately submitted by the Director of Analysis and Evaluation QS Leigh Kamolin, received by the Rector of UMSU represented by Deputy Rector III Dr. Rudianto.M.Si with OIC secretary Muhammad Sahrez Hafiz and Industrial Cooperation Manager Agus Sani in the middle of the QS Higher Education Asia Pacific Summit at Intercontinental Jakarta, Wednesday (9/11).
Apart from UMSU, several other universities in the Asian region, such as Malaysia, Thailand, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia, also received the QS Stars certificate.
As is well known, UMSU volunteered to be audited and evaluated by the QS institution at the end of 2021 in order to gain recognition from international institutions. After going through the stages of filling in data and documents as well as audits and reviews from experts from various countries, on February 28, 2022, it was announced that UMSU won 4 stars with a score of 699, only 1 point less than five stars. Furthermore, on several criteria assessed, among others, Learning, Graduates, Academic Development, Facilities, Social Responsibility, and Inclusivity get five stars. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Medicine received four stars for the flagship program.
UMSU’s presence at the QS Asia Pacific Summit event was at the official invitation of QS because UMSU has become part of the QS community in the Asian region. In particular, UMSU was also invited to participate in the QS Users Community Workshop session, which aims to strengthen the campus’s reputation at the world level of education. The event, which took place on November 8-10, 2022, was opened by Indonesian Vice President Prof. KH Makruf Amin with speakers from the Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim, Head of the QS institution, higher education experts and practitioners from Japan, England, New Zealand, Indonesia, China, Korea, Malaysia, Australia, and other countries. The meeting participants reached more than 600 participants from 40 universities in the Asia Pacific region.
