Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) and the Illegal Levy Eradication Unit of North Sumatera (UPP Sumatera Utara) carried out the socialization of anti-illegal levy (Saber Pungli) as an effort to eradicate extortion and corruption. This socialization was attended by students from across faculties Wednesday (18/5) at the UMSU Auditorium – Jl. Kapten Muchtar Basri No.3, Medan City.
This socialization was presented to the Deputy Director of Community Development (Wadir Binmas) of the North Sumatra Police AKBP Drs. Parluatan Siregar, MH as a speaker for activities that became one of the implementations of cooperation between UMSU and UPP North Sumatra through the Saber Pungli Goes to a Campus program, involving the role of students in overcoming extortion and corruption problems in North Sumatera.
UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP, welcomes this activity. “This outreach activity is undoubtedly significant for us in line with what is being done in collaboration with North Sumatera Police Department, Provincial Government, State Attorney, Ombudsman, and other institutions. We hope that with this socialization, how will these saber extortion programs be grounded not only in North Sumatra but nationally, “said Prof. Agussani.
In addition, the Chairman of the UPP Saber Pungli North Sumatera Comr. Pol Drs. Armia Fahmi, MA said this activity’s purpose was to unite students and cooperate in eradicating illegal levy practice because it can damage the joints of life and the state.
“Students’ participation and integrity are expected to serve as an example to the community regarding preventing and eradicating illegal levy so that the eradication can be carried out without any disturbance. It is hoped that at UMSU, there will be posts to prevent extortion, so let’s be determined to prevent extortion,” said Comr. Fahmi.
He also explained that since 2017 there have been many prevention working groups carried out by the North Sumatran UPP Saber Pungli. Still, cracking down on extortion and corruption practices is not carried out judicially. Still, an arrest operation is carried out and processed by the Police, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Court.
The speaker, i.e., Police Grand Comm. Adj. Parluatan, understood The Role of Students in Eliminating the Reduced Practice of Extortion & Corruption on Campuses and Society. He said that Indonesia was experiencing a personality crisis, especially among students who should have honest, creative, disciplined and challenging, responsible, personalities and friendly. This crisis is a challenge in Indonesia because of the depletion of natural and human resources, especially in social theft of money such as corruption, and students can commit minor immorality.
AKBP Parluatan explained that there are 4 main problems with extortion and corruption, namely those who carry out the practice, by all means, it has become a habit, no one dares to fight extortion and corruption perpetrators, and the lack of legal firmness that deters the perpetrators. Therefore, the President ordered the eradication of illegal levies and corruption to the Regional Government, Indonesian Police, Indonesian Army Prosecutor, PEMUDA, and TOMASY. However, according to Police Grand Comm. Adj. Parluatan, if only the Police were to make efforts to eradicate extortion and corruption, it would be complicated because there would be no cooperation from various groups, especially the community.
This socialization activity was closed with a question and answer session and a group photo, also attended by the Vice Rector II of UMSU Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd, the Dean and Deputy Dean of all UMSU and the ranks of the UPP Saber Pungli North Sumatera. (Pny)
