Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) successfully secured 3rd place overall at The Second International Quran Recitation Award 2025, which brought together 150 participants from 7 countries. The competition was held from Monday to Wednesday (Sept 15–17) at Syiah Kuala University, Aceh.
The UMSU team earned four medals: Mubarik Ritonga (Islamic Education) won 1st place in Men’s Tilawah Qira’at, Mursid Afandi (Islamic Education) took 1st place in Men’s 10 Juz Memorization, Durratul Hikma (Islamic Education) achieved 2nd place in Women’s 20 Juz Memorization, and Daud Sitorus (Islamic Education) won 3rd place in Men’s Tilawah. The participants represented 40 universities from Indonesia as well as Brunei Darussalam, Egypt, Malaysia, Libya, Nigeria, and Saudi Arabia.
UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the students’ achievements. He emphasized that their success on the international stage is a source of pride for the university.
He added that UMSU’s achievement reflects the university’s commitment to fostering student development beyond academics, by providing opportunities and platforms for students to explore and showcase their talents in various fields.
“The university doesn’t just provide opportunities to compete but also ensures the facilities and infrastructure needed for students to practice and develop their potential outside academics,” he said.
Prof. Agussani also hoped that UMSU’s international success would inspire other students to excel. At the same time, he reminded the award-winning team not to be complacent, noting that maintaining achievements is even more challenging than attaining them.
Meanwhile, Chairman of UMSU’s Institute for Quranic Studies (LPTQ), Dr. Muhammad Ruslan, expressed his gratitude for the university’s full support in the competition. He highlighted that such encouragement motivates students to deliver their best.
He also advised the winners not to become complacent, but to take their success as motivation to pursue even greater achievements in the future.
