Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) held a workshop on writing Student Creativity Program (PKM) presenting PIMNAS jury Prof. Fauzi Ahmad, P.hD, Friday (6/1) at the UMSU Auditorium Jl. kapten Muchtar Basri No.3 – Medan City.
Deputy Rector III UMSU Assoc attended to him. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Sc, Chair of the UMSU Srcc Fatimah Sari Siregar, S.Pd., M.Hum and his staff, Deputy Deans III of UMSU, and student representatives and accompanying lecturers.
The implementation of this activity is an effort of UMSU, preparing students and accompanying lecturers who will participate in PKM in 2023. Deputy Rector III UMSU Assoc conveyed this. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si,
“We must be prepared for PKM in 2023, and all faculties have already socialized PKM. Whether there will be PKM this year or not, the most important thing is that we must be prepared in advance; God willing, we will maximize the preparation,” said Rudianto when opening the event.
According to him, the PKM event for UMSU is not just momentum for achievement, but PKM can change the mindset and culture of students and lecturers. Because every year, more and more UMSU students and lecturers are enthusiastic about participating in the PKM event.
Based on the report from the chairman of the UMSU SRCC Fatimah Sari Siregar, S.Pd., M.Hum, this activity was initiated in early 2023, meaning that UMSU is ready to take part in PKM this year, “We hope this activity will be a beneficial activity for all of us,” said Fatima.
Prof. Ahmad Fauzi, P.hD, chairman of the PIMNAS jury and a speaker who often accompanies UMSU at PKM events, provides strategies and tips for writing PKM proposals. According to him, students must diligently read the guidebook and comply with the administration of writing so that the proposals submitted get funding.
“In the past, it seemed impossible to get the top 3 ranking in PTMA. Then finally, I could get the top 2 ranks in PTMA. Slow but sure, in the last three years, UMSU has ranked 1 PTS in Indonesia in the PKM event. It means you have to be confident.” said Prof. Fauzi.
Deputy Rector III for Student Affairs, Alumni and Cooperation at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara, Dr. Rudianto.M.Si was selected to participate in the USA-ASEAN University Connections Initiative (UCI) Program. The United States Government initiated this program, which was announced at the USA-ASEAN Special Summit in May 2022.
US Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Assistant Secretary for Academic Programs Ethan Rozenweig (10/1/2023) in Washington, in an official release, sent explaining that through this program, selected participants can attend virtual and face-to-face training visits to universities in Washington DC, United States.
Furthermore, this program will also build cooperative relationships between universities in the United States and Southeast Asia. Collaboration is focused on strengthening the capacity of tertiary institutions through global partnerships and cooperation in overseas education programs that align with the policies and programs of the United States government.
This activity was officially initiated through the United States Ministry of Foreign Affairs IDEAS (Increase and Diversity Education Abroad Fos US Students) Program.
These programs will involve 50 higher education leaders from the United States and 8 ASEAN countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, the Philippines, Laos, and Vietnam. The activity will take place in 2 forms, namely virtual meetings starting in December 2022 and face-to-face meetings in Washington DC in February 2023.
In this activity, participants will be trained to strengthen international academic cooperation and exchange of students, lecturers, and researchers between American and Southeast Asian universities.
The American Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to strengthening partnerships between the United States and Universities in Southeast Asia by increasing academic collaboration and participating in finding solutions to critical global issues such as climate change and economic development,” said Ethan Rozenweig
This program is specifically for higher education leaders with experience in the cooperation field, especially international. There were 26 selected participants representing universities in the Southeast Asia Region. While from Indonesia, there were five selected participants. One of them is the Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra.
Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatra Utara, Prof. Dr. Agussani.MAP welcomes the election of one of the UMSU Deputy-Rectors in this program. This will be very useful for strengthening UMSU’s international cooperation with world-class universities.
“Alhamdulillah, this is very encouraging and proud. Moreover, this is a special program from the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs. God willing, it will be useful to strengthen our international cooperation with universities in America,” he said.
