A total of 14 members of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) in the Regional Legislative Affairs Committee (BULD) together with lecturers from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (FISIP UMSU) and other institutions discussed village governance. The activity themed ‘Central-Regional Legislation Consultation Meeting in the Context of Monitoring Draft Regional Regulations and Regional Regulations related to Village Governance to North Sumatra Province,’ was held at the UMSU Auditorium, Jalan Mukhtar Basri campus, Medan, Friday (22/11).
‘We welcome all members of DPD RI who are present on the UMSU campus. We are proud to be involved in the activities of the regional central legislative consultation meeting which this time focuses on village governance, ‘said Wakir Rektor III UMSU, Dr. Rudianto, M, Si, in his remarks representing the UMSU Chancellor.
Rudianto continued, UMSU as a higher education institution and FISIP as a faculty have long been involved in village empowerment activities. ‘This activity with DPD RI will certainly be useful in order to continue various activities for village development,’ he said again.
The delegation of BULD RI Leaders who attended UMSU were H. Abdul Hamid, S.Pi., M.Si (Vice Chairman II of BULD) and Agita Nurfianti, S.Psi. (Vice Chair III BULD). While the members who participated were H. Sudirman Haji Uma, S. Sos, K.H. Muhammad Nuh, M.S.P. Sumut, H. Jelita Donal, Lc. Dra. Hj Elviana, M.Si, Dr. Ratu Tenny Leriva, M.M, Drs. Ahmad Bastian Sy, Ir. H. Darmansyah Hussein, Fahira Idris, S.E., M.H., Kondang Kusumaning Ayu, S.Psi, Dr. Habib Ali Alwi, M.Si, Ni Luh Putu Ary Pertami Djelantik, and Ir. Abraham Liyanto.
FISIP lecturers who actively discussed the topic were Vice Dean 1 of FISIP, Dr. Abrar Adhani, M.I.Kom, WD 3 Dr. Hj. Yurisna Tanjung, MAP, Head of the Public Administration Science Study Program Ananda Mahardika, S.Sos., M.SP and Secretary Dr. Jehan Ridho Izharsyah, S.Sos., M.Si, Head of the Communication Science Study Program Akhyar Anshori, M. IKom, Secretary of the Social Welfare Study Program Dr. Sahran Saputra, S.Sos., M.Sos. Then Dr. Ribut Priadi, Dr. Sigit Hardiyanto, Nalil Khariyah, M.Pd, Nurhasanah Nasution, M.IKom, Yulhasni, M.Si, Winda S. Meliala, MSP, Abdurrahman Zuhdi, M.Si, Al Wafi M. IKom, and Arif Hamdani Margolang, M.IKom.
Abdul Hamid, who represented the group of DPD RI conveyed the reason for choosing North Sumatera as the destination of the activity is because this area is very wide and has many villages with various characters.
The purpose of this activity itself is to obtain comprehensive views and input from academics, village government associations and institutions concerned with the implementation of regional autonomy, among others related to village governance arrangements, information on the use of village funds and their accountability, various data related to village development planning regulations / policies, village financial management and preparation of village regulations, forms of village community participation, empowerment, and systems, to the existence of Traditional Villages and Tourism Villages.
Three resource persons presented in the activity delivered their presentation clearly and interestingly. The speakers were Assoc. Prof. Dr. H. Mujahiddin, S.Sos, MSP, a lecturer at FISIP UMSU, then Ir. James Eric Siagian, M.Si as the Provincial Coordinator of the RMC-VII Program for Strengthening Village Governance and Development (P3PD) of North Sumatra Province, and Putra Landry Sitepu, M.Si, Head of Division at the Office of Community and Village Empowerment, Population and Civil Registry of North Sumatra Province.
Guided by Moderator Faizal Hamzah Lubis, S.Sos, M.I.Kom, Secretary of Communication Science Study Program FISIP UMSU, the discussion was interesting. Generally, both speakers and participants agreed that the empowerment of villages and their communities must continue to be encouraged.
