Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) delegated 4 Accounting Lecturers to the International activity ‘The 12th Annual Meeting ASEAN Accounting Education Workgroup (AAEW)’. They were held on Sunday-Monday (19-20/3) at the University of Science Malaysia (USM), Penang.
Attended by the Deans, Heads of Study Programs to Accounting Lecturers from 8 ASEAN Countries members of AAEW, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and Vietnam.
UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, hopes that the UMSU delegation will not just participate in activities but establish good relations with all delegations so that they can collaborate in line with UMSU’s strategic plan towards World Class University.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Accounting Masters Study Program, Dr. Eka Nurmala Sari, said this activity has been held annually. Initially, UMSU was a participant, then in 2023, UMSU was appointed co-host or activity manager.
According to Dr. Eka, this activity is significant for the UMSU Master of Accounting study program in capturing international cooperation partners, especially in developing accounting science. Then, there are opportunities for collaboration related to visiting lecturers, international credit transfers to joint publications.
Therefore, UMSU had the opportunity to sign the Implementation Arrangement, with the involvement of UMSU as a co-host and sending four delegates.
AAEW President Dr. Nanny Tanzil thanked the Rector of UMSU for being the Co-Host in this international activity. The cooperation built since 2021 will continue to be carried out well.
UMSU Representative, Head of the Accounting Masters Study Program Dr. Eka Nurmala Sari, M.Sc., Head of the Bachelor of Accounting Study Program Dr. Zulia Hanum, M.Sc., Lecturer and Researcher in Accounting Mhd. Shareza Hafiz, M. Acc. and Md. Irsan, M.Ak discussed ‘Sustainability Reporting in ASEAN: Development and Future Trends”.
The discussion hosted by Dr. Kishan Krishnen from the Science University of Malaysia discussed the development of a financial reporting system in ASEAN countries based on reports accepted by the world.
The activity closed with a discussion related to the challenges of the accounting profession, namely ‘Global Business Services (GBS) for Sustainable Future’ and ‘Equipping Future Accountants in Sustainability Issues.’
