Eleven cast members and the producer of the film AIUEO Macem Betool Aja received an enthusiastic welcome from hundreds of students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) during a Meet and Greet event held at the university’s auditorium on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan, Wednesday (February 4).
Among the actors present were Lolox, Gemi Nastiti Chaniago, Karyn Putri Lestari, Andri Mashadi, as well as other Medan-based cast members, alongside producer Taezar Sjamsuddin. They were warmly received by UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, and Vice Rector I Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, M.Hum.
Before meeting students in person, Lolox, the cast, and the producer participated in a casual discussion about the film, broadcast live on Radio 96.3 UMSU FM. Lolox expressed his excitement and surprise at the warm reception.
“UMSU is so much fun!” he exclaimed during the cinema talk session on stage with the other cast members. In the film, Lolox plays Alung, the founder of an event organizer (EO) named AIU-EO, alongside Igor (Andri Mashadi) and Ujay (Oki Rengga).
The film tells a Medan-set comedy-drama about three close friends—Alung (Lolox), Igor (Andri Mashadi), and Ujay (Oki Rengga)—who establish an event organizer called AIU EO. They attempt to sabotage the lavish wedding of their client (Adi Sudirja) to Sofia (Michelle Ziudith), Igor’s longtime friend who is being arranged into marriage, all amid the distinctive comedic situations typical of Medan culture.
Welcoming the event, Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani emphasized that UMSU strongly supports films that promote local culture.
“As a university, UMSU does not focus solely on academics; we also value creativity. We strongly support and facilitate the talents and creativity of our students,” he stated, reaffirming his support for Indonesia’s film industry.
On that occasion, the Rector also informed Lolox that UMSU, together with Pimpinan Wilayah Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (PWM North Sumatra), will host the 2027 Muhammadiyah Congress.
“Perhaps you can take part and collaborate in the Congress,” the Rector suggested.
During the Meet and Greet session, Vice Rector I Prof. Arifin expressed gratitude for the trust placed in UMSU as the host of the visit.
“UMSU is truly enthusiastic because all of these stars could be present and interact directly with our students,” he said.
Karyn, the winner of Stand Up Comedy Academy 3 (SUCA 3) who also stars in the film, shared her interest in studying at UMSU. Gemi likewise expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of receiving a scholarship and pursuing her studies at the university.
UMSU’s international student from Yemen, Ahmad, also participated in the Q&A session, asking about the city of Medan. He was joined by other international students from England, Thailand, and Cambodia.
The Meet and Greet event was enlivened by a performance from the Surya Suara UMSU Band.
The event was also attended by faculty leaders of UMSU, 100 high school and vocational school students from across Medan, and students from various faculties within the university.
