On Saturday (12/8), The Faculty of Medicine (FK) UMSU held a congregation and appointment of a medical doctor’s (MD) oath, which was attended by 8 batch 33 MDs in the Hall of the UMSU FK Jalan Gedung Arca No. 53, Medan Teladan.
The congregation procession, also attended by parents, was opened directly by the Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani; MAP was represented by Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Arifin Gultom, M. Hum. He emphatically conveyed his heartfelt congratulations and resounding success to all the students who have passed 100 percent of UMKPPD and earned their well-deserved graduation.
“Alhamdulillah, two years in a row, the achievements of the UMSU FK passed 100 percent of UKMPPD. We pray that our students will continue to be successful because they have gone through a phase of achieving a medical degree,” said Prof. Arifin.
Furthermore, it was recommended by Vice Rector I that medical graduates from UMSU should continue their education, mainly because Artificial Intelligence technology is now prevalent in the field of healthcare. Nevertheless, it is essential to note that regulatory decisions in the healthcare industry still require the expertise of MDs. Therefore, UMSU MD graduates should strive to become proficient in this technology to enhance their knowledge and skills.
“Indonesia still lacks 60 thousand new MD. The number of medical doctors in Indonesia is still low, below the Asian ratio of 0.12% per 1000 population; it should be 0.20% per 1000 population,” said Prof. Arifin. Meanwhile, the Dean of FK UMSU, dr. Siti Masliana Siregar, Sp.THT-KL (K) provides a view of the world of health through the latest law. According to him, MDs who graduated from the UMSU FK did not need to be afraid, insecure, and worried about foreign MDs being allowed in Indonesia.
“Don’t be discouraged by opening foreign MD to practice in Indonesia, but make it a challenge to be 100% better. Yes, when we become MDs, we need to pay attention to the quality of service and effective communication so that patients want to come again,” said the Dean of FK UMSU.
She hopes that the 8 MDs who graduated from the UMSU FK will not be ashamed to ask questions and continue to learn. She states that extended life learning is necessary when someone becomes an MD who can maintain the alma mater’s reputation.
Then, the best graduate of this generation, dr. Khairatun Nisa thanked her parents and UMSU for supporting them in achieving the title of medical doctor.
“I hope the MD of UMSU and other network hospitals will continue to advance and teach the best for UMSU graduates. Realize that our friends will live as MDs whose every life is bound by an oath. I believe we can become agents of change in the health sector,” said Dr. Khairatun.
Also present was the Director of Amri Tambunan Hospital, dr. Hanif Fahri, SpKJ, and the UMSU Medical Study Program leaders.
