The Indonesian Language Institute for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) won a prestigious award as the best BIPA institution in the North Sumatra region.
The award was given directly by the Head of the Language Centre of North Sumatra Province, Hidayat Widiyanto, M.Pd in an award ceremony on Monday (11/11) held at the Santika Dyandra Hotel.
The award also established UMSU’s BIPA Institute as a model and main reference for the development of BIPA programmes in North Sumatra.
‘Alhamdulillah, this extraordinary award will continue to encourage BIPA UMSU Institute to become a reference centre in terms of teaching and disseminating information related to Indonesian for Foreign Speakers in North Sumatra,’ said BIPA Chairperson, Dr. Cut Novita Srikandi, M.Hum.
Since its inception, UMSU BIPA Institute has received intensive assistance from the Language Centre of North Sumatra Province. This mentoring process provides important provisions for the UMSU BIPA Institute to continue to develop and achieve the expected quality standards, until now it is able to become a reference for similar institutions in North Sumatra.

With this recognition, Lembaga BIPA UMSU is expected to play an increasing role in introducing Indonesian effectively to foreign speakers, as well as helping other institutions in the North Sumatra region to improve the quality of BIPA programmes.
