Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) and manufacturing company SD Guthrie International Sei Mangke Refinery signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of cooperation between the tri dharma of higher education industrial practice. The signing was carried out on Monday (11/11) at the UMSU Meeting Room on Muchtar Basri Street No.3 Medan.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP represented by UMSU Vice Rector III, Assoc. Prof. Dr Rudianto, M.Si and the Manager of Guthrie International Elementary School, Ahmad Faizal Bin Abdullah, witnessed by the Heads of the Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Engineering of UMSU as well as the MBKM and CDAC Units.
SD Guthrie International Manager, Ahmad Faizal expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration. ‘We have been in the palm oil industry for more than 200 years and have up to 600 thousand hectares of land around the world. We hope this cooperation can run smoothly and provide great benefits for UMSU students,’ he said.
He hopes that this collaboration can find excellent resources from UMSU to contribute and find industrial experience at Guthrie Elementary School.
Previously, UMSU Vice Rector III Dr Rudianto expressed his respect for the establishment of cooperation with Guthrie International Elementary School. ‘It is an honour for us to establish an MoU with a large manufacturing company like SD Guthrie. At UMSU, we always instil a mindset in students so that after graduation, they are ready to immediately get a job or create their own business opportunities,’ he said.
WR III UMSU also said that one of the advantages of its students is that they have a warrior mentality and spirit. It can be seen from the large number of UMSU students who carry out internships in various regions outside North Sumatra and become the campus with the most students who carry out internships at PTPN.
‘UMSU students have high fighting power, and this is proven by their success in winning the gold medal in PPK Ormawa as a team that has high fighting power,’ he added.
Dr Rudianto added that cooperation with industry is an important step for UMSU in improving student competence. ‘UMSU has collaborated with various industries and international universities, and this proves the high exposure of UMSU in the international arena,’ he said.
The activity continued with a discussion between UMSU and Guthrie Elementary School discussing technical steps to implement the cooperation programme.
The Head of MBKM UMSU, Abdurrahman Zuhdi, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom expressed his readiness to work with the industry in designing internship programmes that are relevant and beneficial for students.
‘We think this collaboration is in line with the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) programme that UMSU has implemented, including through an independent internship programme or MBKM,’ he said.
The Guthrie International Elementary School delegation was invited to review UMSU facilities and infrastructure with UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP and UMSU Vice Rector 3 Assoc. Prof. Dr Rudianto, M.Si.
This collaboration is expected not only to end in the signing of the MoU, but also to produce real collaboration that can support the development of UMSU students in facing the challenges of an increasingly competitive world of work.
