Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) has once again distributed humanitarian assistance to members of the academic community of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) affected by disasters. The aid was delivered at the UMSU VIP Room on Muchtar Basri Street No. 3, Medan, on Tuesday (29/12).
This assistance represents the second phase of support and forms part of strengthened humanitarian collaboration between BNI, UMSU, and the Muhammadiyah organization.
The Regional CEO of BNI Regional Office 01 Medan, Rustianto, stated that although the assistance was modest in scale, it is expected to provide tangible benefits to those affected by the disaster.
“This assistance may not be large, but we hope it can offer some relief and be beneficial. As a partner of UMSU, BNI is committed to continuing positive and constructive collaboration across various sectors,” he said.
He reaffirmed BNI’s commitment to supporting UMSU’s future needs. “BNI is ready to support whatever UMSU requires. Going forward, we hope this collaboration can be further strengthened, including with other stakeholders,” he added.
Rustianto also expressed appreciation for the warm welcome from UMSU and hoped the partnership would continue to grow.
“UMSU is truly remarkable. Thank you for the warm hospitality. We hope UMSU continues to progress and that this partnership remains sustainable,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, UMSU Rector Prof. Agussani warmly welcomed BNI’s presence and concern, describing the visit as an important part of Muhammadiyah’s humanitarian efforts.
“BNI has frequently worked alongside the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, demonstrating that this collaboration is not merely ceremonial but real and sustainable. We sincerely thank BNI for building partnerships based on mutual strengths,” he explained.
He also opened opportunities for further cooperation in education and entrepreneurship.
“If any BNI employees wish to pursue further studies at UMSU, we are very open to that,” he added.
On the same occasion, the Rector highlighted preparations for the 2027 Muhammadiyah Congress (Muktamar), which will be held at UMSU Campus IV.
“We are currently in the process of constructing an auditorium and a sports hall. The campus is also undertaking various initiatives to support sustainability, including the development of a greenhouse as part of our commitment to becoming a sustainable campus,” he stated.

He also expressed gratitude for BNI’s previous assistance and emphasized current urgent needs.
“BNI has previously provided support, and we are deeply grateful. At present, the most urgent needs for affected communities are school supplies and other basic necessities. We hope that in the future this collaboration can be expanded across academic, humanitarian, and economic empowerment sectors,” he concluded.

The assistance was symbolically handed over to UMSU students affected by the disaster and is expected to further strengthen synergy between the banking sector, higher education institutions, and community organizations in delivering meaningful benefits to the wider community.
