The Chairman of the Central Executive Board of Muhammadiyah (PP Muhammadiyah), Prof. Dr. K.H. Haedar Nashir, M.Si, paid a visit to Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) in Perlis on Wednesday (26/11). The visit was conducted on the sidelines of his official trip to Malaysia, which also included a courtesy meeting with the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, and the Raja Perempuan of Perlis, Tengku Fauziah binti Tengku Abdul Rashid.
Prof. Haedar attended in his capacity as Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, accompanied by Dr. Siti Noordjannah, Prof. Dr. Hilman Latif, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Muttaqin, the Rector of UMSU Prof. Dr. Agussani, and the Rector of UMRI—who is also entrusted with the role of Rector of UMAM—Dr. Saidul Amin. During the visit, they provided motivation and encouragement to the UMAM leadership and academic community. The visit also aimed to directly observe the development of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia, which has been established since 2021.
UMAM was founded with the full support of the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail. UMAM is the first Indonesian university established abroad. The university was founded by Muhammadiyah and is fully supported by Muhammadiyah–‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (PTMA) in Indonesia, including UMSU. Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) was established to strengthen the role of PTMA at both national and international levels.
The Raja Muda of Perlis, as the key figure who facilitated the establishment of UMAM, received the Muhammadiyah International Bestari Partner Honorary Award. The award was presented directly by the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Prof. Dr. K.H. Haedar Nashir, M.Si, and he also received an honorary doctorate certificate from the Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP.
Previously, the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, accompanied by Dr. Siti Noordjannah, Prof. Dr. Hilman Latif, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Muttaqin, the Rector of UMSU Prof. Dr. Agussani, and the Rector of UMAM Dr. Saidul Amin, paid a visit to the Raja Muda of Perlis to express gratitude for his assistance and special support for UMAM.
Prof. Haedar expressed his hope that the relationship between Muhammadiyah and Malaysia, and Perlis in particular, would continue to grow stronger in the future.
The Raja of Perlis, accompanied by the Mufti of Perlis, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Asri Zainul Abidin, warmly welcomed the courtesy visit of PP Muhammadiyah. He also apologized for not being able to personally receive Muhammadiyah during a previous visit to Perlis due to undergoing medical treatment at the hospital. He expressed his hope that Muhammadiyah would continue to contribute to advancing education in Perlis.
