Vice Chairman of Commission XIII of the House of Representatives, Sugiat Santoso, S.E., M.SP, visited the campus of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) on Jalan Kapten Mukhtar Basri, Medan, Saturday (8/2).
He appreciated the rapid development of the UMSU campus and said he was ready to collaborate to strengthen education. The visit was welcomed by UMSU Rector Prof. Dr Agussani, MAP accompanied by Vice Rector II, Prof. Dr Akrim, MP.
Sugiat Santoso expressed his honour to be able to visit and see firsthand the rapid development of UMSU. This is his third visit to UMSU.
He appreciated UMSU’s various achievements, one of which was the construction of an integrated campus in Sampali, Deliserdang Regency which will be the location of the Muhammadiyah Congress in 2027.
‘I really appreciate what the UMSU Rector has built. I see firsthand the extraordinary progress here. This is the pilot project that KH Ahmad Dahlan wanted, and Prof Agussani is a brightener,’ he praised.
The Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII DPR also admitted that he was very ready to collaborate with UMSU regarding work programmes that would be carried out with the Ministry.
‘We are ready to collaborate between DPR Commission XIII and UMSU,’ Sugiat said.
On this occasion, he also highlighted the lecture programme in correctional institutions (prison) that had been initiated by UMSU and stated that he was ready to provide support for the programme. He hoped that UMSU alumni could play a more active role in politics and business, and contribute to society.
During the visit, Sugiat Santoso visited various campus facilities and became a talk show host at Radio UMSU FM, the library and the Business Incubator Centre. Sugiat, who was present with Medan Deputy Mayor-elect Zakiyuddin Harahap, Head of Ombudsman Representative of North Sumatra, Herdensi S.Sos, MSP took the time to review the construction process of the UMSU integrated campus which will be the location of the 49th Muhammadiyah and Aisyiah congresses.
The visit was also a form of support for the smooth process of building the auditorium and sports hall used as the arena for the congress. The existence and trust given to UMSU as the location of the congress is a matter of pride for the people of North Sumatra.
During the visit, Sugiat also planted a durian tree on the integrated campus land.
Previously, the Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP was delighted with Sugiat’s presence at UMSU. He considered the Gerindra politician as a young generation of national cadres who had successfully taken part in politics and had extraordinary enthusiasm in supporting the world of education.
‘Alhamdulillah, we are grateful for the arrival of Mr Sugiat. We hope there will be innovations and great contributions from our young generation in supporting the world of education,’ said the Rector of UMSU.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UMSU, Dr Arifin Saleh, S.Sos, MSP, who also accompanied him, said that Sugiat Santoso was a young generation who had a successful career in politics. He hopes that UMSU students can follow in the footsteps of the success of the Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII DPR RI in a career in politics.
