Festive PKKMB Opening, Kapoldasu Appreciates UMSU

The opening of the UMSU Campus Life Introduction for New Students (PKKMB) event on Monday (25/9) was lively and enthusiastically welcomed by 5,363 new students because the program and theme of the event were neatly packaged, which showed achievements and fostered the interests of the younger generation.

The North Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Agung Setya Imam Efendi, M.Si, who was also present, also gave his appreciation to Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) and 5,363 new students who chose to study at UMSU.

“I appreciate the new students who study at UMSU, the only superior accredited private university in North Sumatra and has produced outstanding students to the international level,” said the Kapolda in his remarks in front of new students.

Kapolda expressed his pride in UMSU, which has 5,363 new students in 2023, and he hopes that next year it will increase to 10,000 people.

As the best private university in North Sumatra, Kapolda stated that UMSU has become a partner of the National Police in advancing the nation and leaving behind. He hopes that UMSU will accept more students so that our Development Index will increase unemployment and poverty in North Sumatra will decrease. Kapolda believes that the work of UMSU, which can score achievements and job opportunities for graduates, can answer these problems.

Kapolda also said that UMSU has become a strategic partner in law enforcement, reducing the crime rate and eradicating drug trafficking in the community, which is already worrying. “As Kapolda, I want the cooperation to continue to be improved,” he said.

Previously, the Chairperson of the UMSU PKKMB and Masa Ta’ruf Committee Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si reported that this PKKM carries the theme: Men in Black and Maritime. This concept is deliberately carried out because it is part of the sustainability of the times. In addition, UMSU emphasized that the implementation of PKKM was unique because it was attended by 26 new students with achievements in sports, 14 tahfiz scholarship pathways, 96 KIP scholarships and 125 smart Muhammadiyah card scholarships, 20 Metrotv scholarships and 21 international students from Thailand, Cambodia, and Yemen. PKKMB is also accessible from the practice of violence, bullying, hazing, and undignified unlawful acts. UMSU campus, he said, is also anti-drugs, thuggery, and LGBT.

According to Vice Rector III, the theme indicates that PKKMB is not only routinely carried out to welcome new students but also a program where all the best creativity at UMSU is integrated to transmit achievements and produce innovations for new students.

Meanwhile, UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, emphasized that the change in the face of the implementation of PKKMB, which was lively and enthusiastically welcomed by new students, was adjusted to the population of the younger generation and the development of digital communication technology. For this reason, said the Chancellor, adaptation to technology is a necessity for UMSU in the future. Prof. Agussani thanked Kapoldasu, clerics, religious leaders, banking partners, and the committee for the event’s success.

Journalists monitored the event, which took place in the hall and courtyard of the main campus, Jl Mukhtar Basri Medan, using large indoor and outdoor videotrons.

Videotrons were presented as a medium to broadcast PKKMB content in academic and student affairs. The content and events are designed to be whole live, and most contain creative and interactive audiovisuals. Students were even given a stage to show their interests and talents with a sound system with a capacity of 40,000 watts and the best LED lighting.

Present at the event were Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin Gultom, Vice Rector II, Prof. Dr. Akrim, MPd, faculty leaders, and Postgraduate and Study Programs. In addition, members of the DPR RI Prof. Dr. Johar Arifin Husein, 17th Gubsu Dr. HT Ery Nuradi, BPH UMSU, PW Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah North Sumatra, faculty leaders, Postgraduate, Study Programs and banking partners.

The PKKMB event introduced several Student Units and institutions that are ready to spur the achievements, creativity, and innovation of new students later, namely Puskibi, CDAC, OIC, SRCC, Al Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan Agency, MBKM, LPTQ. In addition, UMSU provides gratitude and scholarships to outstanding students to transmit achievements to new students. After participating in PKKMB at the university and faculty levels, students are presented with Masa Ta’ruf on September 27-29.
