The Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FIKTI) UMSU held a graduation ceremony for 31 graduates of the third batch of the first period of 2025. The event was held at the FEB UMSU Auditorium, Jalan Muchar Basri No. 3, Medan, on Friday (4/7).
According to the Graduation Decision Letter (SK) read by Deputy Dean I, Halim Maulana, M.Kom, the graduates consist of two programmes: 15 students from the Information Systems programme and 16 students from the Information Technology programme.
The graduation ceremony was held solemnly and attended by Vice Rector III Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si, Dean of FIKTI UMSU Dr. Al-Khowarizmi, M.Kom, Deputy Dean I Halim Maulana, ST., M.Kom, and Deputy Dean III Dr. Lutfi Basit, S.Sos, M.I.Kom, as well as faculty members from FIKTI.
In his remarks, Vice Rector III of UMSU, Dr. Rudianto, expressed appreciation for FIKTI’s achievements as the youngest faculty to once again successfully graduate students of outstanding quality.
“We are proud to have 31 students graduating as alumni. We still remember the struggles of establishing FIKTI during the COVID-19 pandemic, and now we are reaping the rewards of our efforts. FIKTI students have proven themselves with exceptional attitude and skills,” he said.
On this occasion, Vice Rector III also emphasised that to succeed in the globalised era, three things are essential: “First, new skills as a differentiator, international experience, and a broad network. However, the most important is honesty and integrity. That is non-negotiable for IT students,” Vice Rector III stressed at the end of his remarks.
Additionally, the Dean of FIKTI, Dr. Al-Khowarizmi, also addressed the graduates, urging them to uphold the reputation of their alma mater and continue learning alongside advancements in information technology.
“Alhamdulillah, Mr. WR, FIKTI graduates have already secured positions at Inalum. In this graduation ceremony, there are two categories of students who have completed their theses: Fikri and Gatot. Thank you to the alumni and parents who have trusted FIKTI as a place to pursue knowledge,” he said.
He hoped that the alumni would continue to uphold the reputation of their alma mater, “In Minangkabau philosophy, be a ‘sumando lebah’ that benefits many people, not a ‘sumando lalat hijau’ that tarnishes the campus,” he advised.
Earlier, Vickri Febrian, a representative of the outstanding graduates, spoke on behalf of his peers, sharing meaningful messages and reflections.
“This graduation ceremony marks the final stage of our time as students. Four years is no short period. Ambitions mean nothing without intention and hard work. I am proud to have managed to balance my studies, work, and organisational activities—and graduate on time. Discipline and hard work yield tangible results,” said Vickri, winner of the Innovilage Telkom University 2025 award.
He also emphasised the importance of international experience and cross-disciplinary collaboration as crucial assets for tackling future challenges.

FIKTI continues to innovate and make its mark on the international stage. Several global collaboration programmes and student exchange initiatives have been implemented, including the success of FIKTI students in securing funding for the Student Creativity Week (PKM).

The event concluded with the presentation of medals to the top graduates and a group photo session.
