The Principal Officer of the United States Consulate in Sumatra, Bernard Uadan, and Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, inaugurated the Education USA office on the campus of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) on Jalan Kapten on Thursday (2/5).
They were also accompanying the Head of the North Sumatra Education Office Ir. Abdul Haris Lubis, M. Si, Head of LLDikti Region 1 Prof. Drs. Saiful Anwar Matondang, M.A., Ph.D and 150 Principals in North Sumatra were present.
The Education USA Center at UMSU is the only one in North Sumatra and the seventh center of six cities in Indonesia. It provides services and containers to the community for obtaining information on further education in the United States.
The Principal Officer of the USA Consulate in Sumatra, Bernard, said he was very grateful to have collaborated with UMSU to inaugurate this center and provide educational information services in America to the general public for free.
“Thank you, UMSU, especially the Rector, for providing support by providing facilities so that this center is established, not only for UMSU but can be useful among the public,” Bernard said during the Press Conference.
He hopes that the 75-year-old relationship between Indonesia and the USA will be closer and that the center at UMSU can make it easier for people to get information about studying in the United States.
“I hope that with this center, more and more students in Indonesia, especially Sumatra, will study in America,” said Bernard.
Meanwhile, the Rector, Prof.Dr.Agussani, MAP highly appreciates the appointment of UMSU as the 7th Education USA location, a place to bridge the community to get information on education in the United States.
“This is certainly one of our dreams that needs to be grateful and an extraordinary mandate. Hopefully, the Education USA center will be useful for UMSU students or the general public,” said the UMSU’s rector when interviewed.
He also said that the relationship between UMSU and the USA has been running since 2012. Trying to create good relationships and cooperation in education, “If there is no recognition and trust from the community, then there is no cooperation. UMSU is always ready for better future plans, “said Prof. Agussani.
The Head of the North Sumatra Education Office, Ir. Abdul Haris was also present and expressed his support for UMSU and the USA Consulate. He believes establishing this center is an integral part of the world of education in North Sumatra in the future.
The ribbon cutting, The inauguration marked the signing of the MoU between UMSU and the USA Consulate in Sumatra and the handover of souvenirs. Also witnessed were the ranks of the USA Consulate in Sumatra, Heads of Faculties at UMSU, Heads of Bureaus at UMSU, and Institutions and Units at UMSU.
