Interpersonal relationships can be built anywhere, even in your daily activities. Still, few people understand how to build a relationship that requires interaction between two or more people and can bring various benefits to you. For example, starting from a person’s decision on the attitude of others, which can show a person’s likes or dislikes and will affect the interaction. In addition, this social interaction requires a relationship or common interest so that it can be built together.

An example of an interpersonal relationship that might be able to illustrate it is a professional working relationship, where people working under the company have the same interests so that there is two-way communication.

This type of social connection is always associated with communication; even though there are still many elements you need to apply in building a good relationship, it could be your interactions with family, friends, partners, or spiritual.

Characteristics of Interpersonal Relationships You Need to Know

Various factors indicate that interpersonal social interaction is being established; as social beings, interaction or communication between two people is common because humans will need each other after all.

1. Sending and Receiving Messages Verbally and Non-Verbally

People engage in this interpersonal interaction, subconsciously sending and receiving messages verbally and non-verbally. The verbal attitude in question is in the form of oral or written, while non-verbal can be in the form of eye movements or touch.

This is done spontaneously, and the people involved will also provide feedback directly to the person concerned. So it can be seen that this interaction is intertwined with the exchange between two or more people.

2. Informal atmosphere

The following characteristic of this relationship is an informal atmosphere, where the conditions of the social interaction are not awkward because they already know each other, so the atmosphere does not feel stiff.

However, this social interaction is more about individual relationships, namely friendship, and relatives. Each type of relationship must have a different closeness. Therefore, the interactions with family and relatives will also look different.

3. Two-Way Communication

Of course, two-way communication is a feature that is included in this interaction, and this communication takes place continuously and continuously. Both parties send and receive messages to each other, either through words or gestures.

Every relationship will definitely have two-way communication, which makes the interaction come alive. Therefore, you should immediately train yourself to build good communication for less proficiency in establishing communication.

Different Types of Interpersonal Relationships

This interpersonal relationship can be established anywhere, from a reasonably intimate closeness between two people to professionalism at work. But still, in the social connection, the people in it have the same goals or interests.

1. Family

These interactions between people who are related by blood or connected by marriage may be your first connection as an individual. Family becomes the first person with a reasonably intimate closeness to you besides your partner.

Proximity to family certainly varies, but generally, this interaction has a reasonably intimate closeness because the two parties often interact. In addition, the parties are included in the family relationship, such as the father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, and others.

2. Friendship

The next type is friendship, where this interaction is unconditional because the parties in it establish a connection of their own accord. And these individuals, too, enjoy each other’s presence.

Someone who has a friendly relationship indicates that they have relatively high compatibility, and it could be that your relationship with friends is more important than your partner or family.

3. Couple

Relationships with partners are established because of feelings of attraction to each other, thus creating a connection full of closeness, trust, intimacy, and mutual respect. As with two-way interactions, couples must also reciprocate feelings for each other.

A couple also needs to compromise and understand each other to create a relationship that can last in the long term. Everyone with a connection is generally bound to or has a special bond.

4. Professional or Work

The next type of this relationship is a working relationship, the people involved are under the same organization or company, so they have the same goal. Therefore, they are commonly referred to as co-workers or colleagues.

Influential Interpersonal Relationship Factors

Several factors that affect the connection can be formed in the formation of a relationship. Perhaps it is in human nature that they will exhibit some of the attitudes that make this interpersonal relationship possible.

1. Facial Expressions

Not only conveyed through words, but the facial expressions you give to the other person also create a perception or assumption that they will be accepted. People can judge your response through facial expressions in a few seconds.

Subconsciously, body language can also indicate how you respond to decisions or words given by the other person. For example, although gestures are not included in communication, the body can interpret them as language or a problem.

2. Communication

Another factor in interpersonal relationships is communication, where effective communication will create an interactive and fun atmosphere.

If the interaction takes place in a communicative atmosphere, it will be easier for you and the other person to understand each other’s intentions.

3. Personality

A person’s different personality allows the other party to know the responses or responses given so that the interaction is established. Habits, character, and behavior can be subjective experience that expresses your personality.

4. Stereotyping

Another factor in relationships is stereotyping, a person’s perception of how they treat the group differently. For example, it can group by age, gender, or based on someone’s smartness or stupid.

Ways to Develop Interpersonal Relationships

You can improve this interpersonal connection again; building interaction between two parties becomes easy, but not everyone can do it, especially at work, where you will be dealing with strangers.

1. Building Togetherness

Interpersonal relationships can be developed by building togetherness, where you don’t discriminate between co-workers and treat them the same. Respect other people’s opinions because everyone has that right.

2. Give a Smile

Just giving a smile can improve the relationship between people. Try to be kinder to other people, but within reasonable limits, so they don’t hesitate to communicate or interact with you.

By being more considerate of all your co-workers, for example, this interpersonal interaction will be easier to establish. As a result, you will also be more comfortable around these people.

3. Be the Mediator

In a relationship, you also need to be a mediator. It never hurts to be the middleman if a dispute occurs in the work or family environment. Not wanting to interfere with this attitude can increase the personal connection between the two parties.

Make sure you know the problem and be neutral about both. It is not easy to establish interpersonal relationships. Moreover, we interact with other people, which sometimes drains energy.

Building interpersonal relationships can be done anywhere, or maybe you are not aware that the connection is already established in a family relationship.***( Editor / UMSU )
