IMM UMSU Colossal Masta: IT and AI are Challenges
The Muhammadiyah Student Association of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (IMM UMSU) held a colossal Masa Ta’aruf (Masta) in order to welcome 5,363 new students at UMSU, Wednesday (27/9). Masta is a follow-up activity to the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) carried out from Monday to Tuesday, September 25-26, 2023, at the UMSU Court on Muchtar Basri Street No.3 Medan.
The colossal masta carries the theme ‘Continuing the Existence Value of Religiousness, Intellectuality, and Humanity of IMM through Massive Cadre Movement to Compete in the National and International Scene.’ According to the Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, this activity is the second colossal masta after COVID-19 hit the world.
“IMM UMSU has made the union proud in the international arena. A total of 9 commissariats have achievements and contributions to UMSU,” said the Chancellor.
The Rector explained that UMSU encourages all students, especially IMM, to be creative and achieve achievements. Motivation is given in the form of appreciation for the provision of scholarships.
Furthermore, in the report of the Chairperson of the Colossal Masta Committee as well as the head of IMM Faperta UMSU Rizki Afani, IMM’s achievements as an autonomous organization of Muhammadiyah cannot be separated from the three focuses of the Movement, namely the religious, student and community fields.
Masta Kolosal is packed with innovation and creativity managed by IMM cadres throughout UMSU, featuring dances, musical poetry, and creative videos introducing each IMM Faculty at UMSU. Not only that, this year’s colossal masta presented the General Chairperson of the DPP for the 2018-2020 period and the General Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah Youth for the 2023-2027 period, Najih Prasetyo, as a speaker in a public lecture presentation.
IT and AI are Challenges
Najih, in his presentation, said that in the future, namely in the next 5 to 10 years, students’ rivals are no longer classmates, but technology and AI.
“To be a student, you must prepare yourself to face the times,” said Najih.
He explained there are at least four things that students must have to face the era of technology and AI, including having the value of creativity and innovation, being proficient in intellect, having a high interest in reading and writing literacy, and being active in organizations.
“Being active in organizations is very important because organizations are a place to explore intellect and learn to be creative and innovative,” said the Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah Youth.
The message conveyed in the public lecture was in line with the delivery of DPP IMM Ihya Rizky, who was also present. He said that if college is learning, then IMM is thinking. So, if you study but do not think, it is useless, and vice versa. Entering UMSU and IMM is learning while thinking. Moreover, IMM Medan City Branch Leader Akbar Muhadis stated that UMSU is a campus with the most tremendous appreciation for the potential of students in it.
Also present were the Vice-Rectors of UMSU, Acting Head of Education and Culture of Medan City Alexander Sinulingga, Regional Leaders of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiah North Sumatra, UMSU Daily Governing Board and Faculty Leaders at UMSU.
