Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) successfully held the launch of its 2026 New Student Admissions (Penmaru), enlivened by creative performances from student representatives of 58 schools in Medan, Langkat, and Deli Serdang. The event took place at the UMSU Auditorium, Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan, on Saturday (22/11).
The students showcased a wide range of impressive talents, including Tarung Derajat martial arts, poetry recitation, vocal duets, storytelling, musicalized poetry, monologues, creative choir performances, Paskibra variations, traditional dances, and violin performances. The event became even more vibrant with a parade of students from each participating school, as well as the presence of international students who shared testimonials about UMSU as a globally oriented university.
On the occasion, UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP, reaffirmed UMSU’s commitment as an inclusive campus. “UMSU not only supports students in all academic aspects, but also continuously nurtures and encourages creativity,” he explained.
He stated that all performances presented reflected UMSU’s commitment to fostering creativity and responding to contemporary developments, including the interests of Generation Z.
“From UMSU emerge bureaucrats, athletes, and artists,” said Prof. Agussani, emphasizing that the slogan unggul, cerdas, terpercaya (excellent, intelligent, and trustworthy) demonstrates the remarkable integration of academics and creativity at UMSU.
At this event, the Rector awarded tuition incentives in the form of a first-semester scholarship discount, free registration fees, and exemption from development fees to students who delivered outstanding performances. These awards were given to the Paskibra variation team from MAN 1 Medan and a vocally talented student from SMA Al Azhar. In addition, he presented a guitar to Afifah, a student from Pondok Pesantren Kuala Madu, in recognition of her completion of the 30 Juz of the Qur’an.
Previously, UMSU Vice Rector III, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si, in his remarks highlighted UMSU’s outstanding achievements on the international stage.
“Remarkably, UMSU has entered the world’s most credible university rankings, placing 445th in Asia, 87th in Southeast Asia, and 19th best in Indonesia,” he stated.

Furthermore, UMSU has excelled in several QS Asia Ranking categories, including Social Impact (12th best in Indonesia), Impactful Education Programs (2nd in Indonesia), and Health Programs (best in Indonesia).
According to the Vice Rector III, this international recognition is reflected in UMSU’s extensive collaborations with national and international universities, as well as the presence of institutions such as EducationUSA (U.S. scholarships), the Chinese Corner, the French Corner, and the India Corner.
“This is what makes UMSU a campus frequently visited by ambassadors and representatives of friendly nations,” said Dr. Rudianto.
The Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) of North Sumatra, H. Ahmad Qosbi, S.Ag., M.M., also expressed his appreciation. “UMSU is extraordinary in serving as a bridge to help students achieve their aspirations, developing strong intellect and reasoning,” he said, expressing hope that UMSU would continue to advance in producing excellent generations.
