The Department of Sharia Business Management and Sharia Banking at the Faculty of Islamic Religion, University of Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), organized the Islamic Capital Market School for students on Thursday (June 22) at the FAI UMSU Auditorium, Building F, Jalan Muchtar Basri No.3, Medan.

The event was attended by more than 100 participants, consisting of students and lecturers, to enhance their understanding of the capital market per Sharia principles.

Isra Hayati, M.Si, the Chairperson of the Sharia Business Management Department at FAI UMSU, expressed her appreciation and pride for the conducted event.

“We are very proud to be able to organize this event, which encourages a deeper understanding of the Islamic capital market. Sharia investments are not just about seeking financial profit but also about providing positive social impact and maintaining environmental balance,” she said.

Participants in this event received intensive training for one day, which included lecture sessions, panel discussions, and case studies. Accompanied by experts in capital markets and Islamic economics, they delved into important aspects of Sharia investment, such as ethics, principles, and risk management.

In the panel discussion session, participants had the opportunity to learn from leading practitioners and academics in the Islamic capital market, including representatives from PT. Maybank Sekuritas Indonesia, Yustika Sitompul, and representatives from the Indonesia Stock Exchange in North Sumatra, Ferdinan Sihombing. They discussed the latest developments and highlighted the importance of corporate social responsibility while addressing sustainable investment trends.

Participants also had the opportunity to apply their knowledge through relevant real-world case studies. They were challenged to design investment portfolios that adhere to Sharia principles while considering social, environmental, and corporate governance factors.

The Dean, represented by Assoc, opened the event. Prof. Dr. Munawir Pasaribu, M.A., the Vice Dean III of FAI UMSU. He stated that the Islamic Capital Market School is an implementation of collaboration between leading Islamic financial institutions and academics in the field of Islamic economics. The aim is to provide in-depth knowledge regarding responsible investments in accordance with Sharia principles.

“This activity is very important and beneficial, especially for students in the Department of Sharia Business Management and Sharia Banking, as it strengthens the theories they have learned throughout their

studies,” he said.
