Qualitative Research Methods
The qualitative research method is a method or research method that emphasizes analysis or descriptive. In a qualitative research process, subject perspectives are emphasized, and theoretical foundations are used by researchers as guides so that the research process is on the facts encountered in the field when conducting research.
Qualitative research methods aim to explain a phenomenon in depth and are carried out by collecting data as deeply as possible.
Qualitative methods prioritize observation of phenomena and examine more into the substance of the meaning of these phenomena. The strength of the words and sentences is greatly affected by the analysis and acumen of qualitative research.
When a researcher conducts research with qualitative methods, attention will focus more on human elements, objects, and institutions, as well as the relationships or interactions between these elements, to understand an event, behavior, or phenomenon.
Differences between Qualitative and Quantitative Methods
According to McCusker, K., & Gunaydin, S. (2015), qualitative methods are used to answer questions about “what,” “how,” or “why” for a phenomenon, while quantitative methods answer the question “how much (how many, how much).”
Qualitative research methods make more effort to investigate the problem. These existing problems will be the basis used by researchers in retrieving data. Then the researcher determines the variables and measures them with numbers for analysis according to the procedures of the applicable statistics.
Purpose of Qualitative Methods
A researcher uses qualitative research methods to understand how a community or individuals accept specific issues.
Researchers must also understand and understand and have adequate knowledge regarding the problem to be studied. If the researcher needs to understand what he wants to research, then the research does not qualify as qualitative research.
In addition, researchers are also able to get the correct data, limiting assumptions, and write persuasively so that readers can feel the same experience.
