The Regional Office of the Directorate General of Treasury (Kanwil DJPb) of North Sumatra Province has partnered with Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) to establish cooperation in the implementation of the Tri Dharma of higher education. The collaboration was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Auditorium of the UMSU Campus on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan, on Wednesday (26/11).

The MoU was signed by the Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, represented by Vice Rector I Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, M.Hum, and the Head of the North Sumatra Regional Office of the Directorate General of Treasury, Indra Souparjanto, S.E., MAP. The signing was accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Dr. Radiman, M.Si, and the Vice Dean III of FEB, Dr. Hasrudy Tanjung, S.E., M.Si.

Indra Souparjanto, S.E., MAP, expressed his appreciation for UMSU as a rapidly developing and high-achieving university.

“This is a very positive synergy between UMSU and the North Sumatra Regional Office of DJPb. We hope this collaboration will enable us to share knowledge, conduct joint research, and undertake many other activities together,” he said.

Indra explained that although DJPb previously focused mainly on fiscal matters, its current approach is far more comprehensive.

“Nationally, our state budget (APBN) has not decreased; only the allocation has changed. Given Indonesia’s current conditions, priorities must be determined. We are ready to share information related to the APBN,” he explained.

He also emphasized the importance of cooperation with educational institutions as strategic partners. “At the Directorate General of Treasury Regional Office, we are encouraged to build fiscal resilience and connect growth indicators. To achieve this, we need partners—one of which is universities,” he added.

Earlier, Vice Rector I of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, S.H., M.Hum, welcomed the cooperation and reaffirmed UMSU’s strong concern for economic and development issues.

“UMSU’s level of concern for economic issues is truly remarkable. As we see in the media or on television regarding Minister Purbaya, there are both supporters and critics. We need to stay informed, therefore we should listen carefully to the public lecture that will follow,” said Prof. Arifin.

According to him, the MoU with the Regional Office of DJPb is part of UMSU’s broader strategy to expand academic collaboration and enhance accreditation. UMSU fully supports this cooperation and hopes it will contribute to Indonesia’s development. “We support this collaboration and hope it will continue to grow for the benefit of both institutions in the future,” he stated.

The Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business of UMSU, Dr. Radiman, S.E., M.Si, in his remarks, also stressed the importance of understanding Indonesia’s rapidly changing economic conditions, making this activity highly relevant for students.

“Economic dynamics make us curious about Indonesia’s current economic conditions. Discussions on the economy are not limited to the Faculty of Economics but extend to almost all faculties. Therefore, it is important for us to listen to insights from the Regional Office of DJPb,” he said.

The event continued with a public lecture delivered by the Head of the Budget Implementation Development Division II of the North Sumatra Regional Office of DJPb, Edy Purwanto, S.E., MAP, who encouraged students to better understand the role of the state budget (APBN) in national life.

“We invite all students to care more about the APBN because it is our money. For those who wish to write a thesis or dissertation on fiscal issues, we are very open to collaboration,” he remarked.

The event was also attended by officials from the North Sumatra Regional Office of DJPb, heads of study programs and lecturers from the Faculty of Economics and Business, as well as students.
