The Career Development and Alumni Center (CDAC) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) held its 10th annual Job Fair, involving 27 partner companies and offering 500 job vacancies, at the UMSU Campus Auditorium, Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan, on Thursday (27/11).

This annual event was lively and featured a series of activities, including career talks, on-the-spot recruitment and selection, free psychological tests, career and internship preparation consultations, the UMSU To Be Ready program, as well as acoustic music performances.

The event was officially opened by Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, M.Hum, who in his remarks emphasized the importance of graduate competencies in facing increasingly competitive job markets.

“Every year, around one million university graduates enter the workforce in Indonesia, while the number of companies in need of employees is limited. As a result, selection becomes very competitive, and strong competencies are required to compete,” he said.

He noted that the Job Fair serves as a strategic platform that brings graduates together with the industrial sector. In addition, alumni employment outcomes are an important indicator in university accreditation.

“For UMSU, this is very important because campus accreditation indicators can be seen from how alumni grow and succeed in the job market. Alhamdulillah, in the QS Ranking 2026, UMSU is ranked 445th in Asia. Hopefully, this annual event will continue to be even more successful in the future,” he added.

Earlier, the Head of CDAC, Sukma Lesmana, S.E., M.Si, reported that the event was not only intended for UMSU graduates but was also open to the general public. He emphasized that the Job Fair has become a routine agenda that continues to be developed to meet the needs of industry.

“This event is open to the public and is held every year. In addition to recruitment, we also provide career consultations for fresh graduates, as well as the UMSU Talent Job Ready competition to assess how prepared UMSU students are to enter the workforce,” he explained.

Sukma expressed his hope that partner companies would serve applicants well, with the ultimate goal of connecting graduates with employers.

Meanwhile, a representative of partner company PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), Surya Andika, stated that the event opens great opportunities for both companies and job seekers.

“We have a considerable demand for employees, and hopefully through this Job Fair we can synergize with prospective workers who meet our qualifications, so that alumni can compete and be employed. Hopefully, this Job Fair can connect us with the best talent,” he said.

The implementation of the UMSU Job Fair 2025 is expected to serve as a bridge for UMSU graduates and the general public to enter the workforce, while also strengthening the relationship between the university and industry.
