The Executive Board of the Indonesian Medical Association (PB IDI) paid a visit to Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) on Friday (14/8) at the VIP Meeting Room on the UMSU campus, Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan.

In his remarks, Chairman of PB IDI, Dr. dr. Slamet Budiarto, S.H., M.HKes., expressed the organization’s full commitment to collaborating with UMSU and supporting the success of the 2027 Muhammadiyah-Aisyiyah Congress.

“IDI and Muhammadiyah have a very close relationship. With the Congress approaching, the appointment of UMSU and the North Sumatra Muhammadiyah Regional Board (PWM Sumut) is a major responsibility, and we assure you that our doctors are ready to be present and provide support,” said Dr. Slamet.

Dr. Slamet also offered input on hospital site planning and the strengthening of academic and professional networks. PB IDI is ready to facilitate UMSU’s academic needs in various areas, including the provision of PTKES, competency examinations, and the development of networks with the Health Council.

“IDI is ready to help, Sir. Please feel free to contact us. We see UMSU as an outstanding institution, and I am confident that the Congress in North Sumatra will be a success,” said the Chairman of PB IDI.

The meeting discussed efforts to strengthen the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK), plans to establish UMSU Hospital, and preparations for medical services ahead of the 2027 Muhammadiyah-Aisyiyah Congress in North Sumatra.

Earlier, UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd., said that the visit by the highest leadership of Indonesia’s medical professional organization represented an important opportunity for advancing medical knowledge and strengthening policies for physician development at UMSU.

“We hope this opportunity will become an important milestone for UMSU as we continue to develop. In the near future, we will begin planning and developing Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara Hospital. At present, UMSU has also been entrusted by Muhammadiyah leadership to manage the Muhammadiyah General Hospital of North Sumatra, which is currently classified as a Type D hospital,” explained Prof. Akrim.

The Rector further expressed hope that IDI would provide technical and academic input for the hospital’s planning and development, including efforts to optimize the specialist medical education programs already offered by UMSU.

Currently, FKIK UMSU offers three specialist medical programs: General Surgery, Pulmonology, and Family Medicine in Primary Care.

“We greatly welcome input from PB IDI, particularly in preparing supporting facilities and healthcare services to accommodate hundreds of thousands of participants and international delegates from 30 Special Branches of Muhammadiyah around the world,” Prof. Akrim said.

A similar expectation was expressed by Chairman of the North Sumatra Muhammadiyah Regional Board (PWM Sumut), Prof. Dr. Hasyimsyah Nasution, M.A., regarding plans to deploy approximately 500 ambulances at various public service points.

“We hope IDI as an organization can participate broadly and send doctors to Medan to help ensure the smooth implementation of the Congress and contribute to making this major event a success,” he said.

The gathering concluded with the presentation of souvenirs and a group photo involving all participating leaders.

The meeting was also attended by Vice Rector for Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) and Education, Teaching, and Digitalization (PPD), Dr. Marah Doly Nasution, S.Pd., M.Si.; Vice Rector for Human Resources and Finance (SDK), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qorib, M.A.; Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni (KMA), Dr. Faisal, S.H., M.Hum.; Secretary of the UMSU Board of Trustees (BPH), Dr. Mutholib, M.M., and his team; Secretary General of PB IDI, Dr. Telogo Wismo Agung Durmanto; Chairman of the PB IDI Board of Experts, Prof. Dr. dr. Kamal Basri, Sp.B(K)Onk.; Chairman of the North Sumatra IDI Regional Board, Dr. dr. Ery Suhaimi, S.H., M.H., M.Ked.; along with members of the North Sumatra IDI Regional Board and leaders of the North Sumatra Muhammadiyah Regional Board.
