Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) and PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia Tbk officially established a partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen industry collaboration on Thursday (13/8) at Hotel Santika Premiere Dyandra Medan.
The MoU was signed by UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd., and Senior Branch Manager of PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia Tbk, Fitra Nirwan. Also present were Executive Board Member of the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), Dr. Sulistyowati, M.E., CFP; President Director of PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia Tbk, Dr. Imam Teguh Saptono, M.M.; and Sumatra Region Head of PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia Tbk, Kadar Budiman.
The partnership is part of UMSU’s efforts to expand collaboration with industry by creating opportunities for cooperation in education, research, development and innovation, as well as community service. It also provides opportunities for final-year UMSU students to gain access to facilities and placements for internships and research activities.
Sumatra Region Head of PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia Tbk, Kadar Budiman, welcomed the partnership with UMSU. He expressed hope that the collaboration would continue to develop and extend beyond the signing of the MoU.
“We welcome this partnership. We hope the relationship between Bank Muamalat and UMSU will not stop at the signing of the MoU, but will continue through programs that provide benefits to both parties, particularly in education, student development, and the utilization of digital services,” he said.
Bank Muamalat’s partnership provides UMSU with opportunities to develop collaborations that are more closely aligned with the needs of the workforce. This is important in creating a learning experience that goes beyond theory, enabling students to address real-world challenges and generate tangible benefits.
Meanwhile, UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd., said the partnership with Bank Muamalat is expected not only to strengthen institutional services but also to create broader opportunities for students and the academic community.
“We want every partnership established by UMSU to deliver tangible benefits—not only for the institution, but also for students, lecturers, administrative staff, and the wider community. Therefore, this partnership is directed toward supporting a digital campus, strengthening research and innovation, and developing impactful programs,” he said.
According to Prof. Akrim, collaboration with industry is an important component of UMSU’s efforts to continuously develop as a university capable of responding to the demands of the times.
The partnership is aligned with the UMSU Rector’s vision: “Towards a World-Class Digital Campus, Excellent in Impactful Research and Innovation, Guided by Transformative, Inclusive, and Humanistic Leadership.”
Collaboration with industry is expected to go beyond administrative agreements and be translated into concrete programs that deliver direct benefits to students, the academic community, the institution, and society.
