The movie actor Tora Sudiro was greeted enthusiastically by hundreds of students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) when holding a meet and greet at the auditorium on Jalan Kapten Mukchtar Basri No. 3 Medan, Thursday (5/7).
Tora Sudiro was present with scriptwriter Sindy Asta, Alwin, and Renu’s film crew. The presence of the stars of the film Chasing Dreams Gaspool was welcomed directly by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, and Vice Rector 3, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, MSc.
Tora also had a meeting with the Vice Chairman of the KPK for the 2011-2015 period, Dr. H. Bambang Widjojanto, S.H., M.Sc., who happened to be on the UMSU campus, in order to attend the Regional Meeting of the PP Muhammadiyah Law and Human Rights Council in Sumatra and West Kalimantan.
Tora and the Rector of UMSU chatted casually about the film being shown on Radio 96.3 UMSU FM before greeting the students. The Rector expressed surprise at how welcoming UMSU was.
“I feel honored; this is the first time that a meet and greet event has been welcomed this lively,” he said when lined up on stage with Sindy as the writer and Alwin as the person in charge of the film promo. Tora Sudiro, in this film, plays Darma, an old actor whose career has begun to fade.
The film Kejar Mimpi Gaspol tells the story of a mother named Fifi who lives in Bromo, a homestay owner who raises her daughter, Diana. Despite his work as a tour guide, he still has a dream to become a writer. Starting from this dream, the story conflict in this film is built.
The writer, Sindy, said that this film conveys the message that becoming a mother does not mean losing your youth and chasing your dreams. Instead, you have a support system and a new environment to make your dreams come true.
Welcome to this meet and greet. UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, said, “This film contains an educational message, and UMSU as a college does not only concentrate on academics but also values creativity. We are ready to facilitate the development of student talent and creativity,” said Prof. Agussani, who also supports Indonesian films.
On that occasion, the Rector also briefly explained the profile of UMSU as the only superior accredited PTS on the island of Sumatra. The Meet and Greet event is also part of UMSU’s commitment to support creative development activities in the arts.
The Kejar Mimpi Gaspol Meet and Greet event featured lively dance performances by the Dance UKM and entertaining music from the Surya Suara UMSU Band.
