Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) has officially entered into an international partnership aimed at enhancing and developing education with Edutolia Education and three universities in Turkey.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMSU and Edutolia Education was conducted by UMSU Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP, during the Turkish University Fair 2025 on Wednesday (April 30) at the Adimulia Hotel Ballroom, Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro No. 8, Medan.
Following that, the MoUs between UMSU and the three Turkish universities were signed by UMSU’s Vice Rector III, Dr. Rudianto, M.Si, on behalf of the Rector. Edutolia Education is an institution that focuses on strengthening educational relations between Indonesia and Turkey.
The three Turkish universities involved in the partnership are:
-
Kayseri University
-
Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University
-
Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University
The MoU signing was witnessed by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Turkey in Medan, Dr. H. Rahmat Shah, and the CEO of Edutolia, Ibrahim Albayrak, accompanied by the Head of UMSU’s OIC, Rafieqah Nalar Rizky, S.Sos., M.A., and OIC Secretary, Muhammad Syahreza Hafiz, M.Acc.
Dr. H. Rahmat Shah stated that this collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing education.
“Indonesia needs individuals who are knowledgeable, morally upright, and uphold religious and humanitarian values. Through collaboration, we can share strengths—what Turkey has to offer and what we bring—and compensate for each other’s shortcomings,” he said.
UMSU Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, emphasized that this partnership marks a significant step in UMSU’s effort to internationalize its campus and opens up vast opportunities for collaboration in education, research, and academic exchange.
“This is a key milestone for UMSU to foster an international academic atmosphere and to strengthen global cooperation,” said Prof. Agussani.
At the forum, UMSU also showcased several of its institutional strengths to more than 20 university delegates from Turkey. One of UMSU’s notable assets is its Observatory of Astronomy (Observatorium Ilmu Falak), a leading research center in Islamic astronomy.
“UMSU is one of the few universities in Indonesia offering a program in Ilmu Falak (Islamic astronomy), which holds great potential for collaborative development with international partners, including those from Turkey,” he added.
Vice Rector III, Dr. Rudianto, M.Si, also noted that UMSU had previously established several international collaborations, including with Turkish universities, and is now expanding its global network.
“We are delighted to meet with representatives from Turkish universities. We hope this forum leads to the creation of synergistic programs such as joint research, student and faculty exchanges, and other international initiatives,” he explained.

This collaboration represents a strategic opportunity for UMSU to broaden its global partnerships and develop joint programs in education, research, and academic mobility with top universities in Turkey.
Through this partnership, UMSU aims to strengthen cross-border academic relations and initiate impactful joint programs to improve the quality of higher education in Indonesia.
