The exhibition booth of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) at the North Sumatra Innovation and Investment Week 2025—held at the grounds of Maimun Palace, Medan—received an enthusiastic welcome from the public, especially students.
The exhibition, officially opened by the Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, on Wednesday (20/8), showcased a wide range of student innovations and creative works. The Governor, along with several regional officials and Sultan Deli Mahmud Arya Lamanjiji Perkasa Alam, visited the booths featured at the event.
UMSU was among the universities participating in this annual event organized by the North Sumatra Provincial Government. The exhibition runs from Wednesday to Saturday, August 20–23, 2025, at the Maimun Palace parking area.
At its booth, UMSU displayed a variety of student innovations, including robots, plastic waste processing machines that convert waste into fuel, drone technology, and other innovative MSME products.
These projects were developed by UMSU students who had won competitions and received funding through various entrepreneurship programs such as the Student Entrepreneurship Development Program (P2MW), Student Digital Innovation Competition (LIDM), Student Creativity Program (PKM), and the National Robotics Contest.
The Governor expressed his support for the showcased innovations, noting that he was already familiar with UMSU’s achievements. “I often drop by UMSU,” he joked while encouraging the works to help boost North Sumatra’s economy.
Sultan Deli also stopped by to view a robot created by the Faculty of Engineering’s Sei Deli Team and posed for photos with them. “This is very impressive. Congratulations to Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara, may more innovations continue to emerge,” he remarked.
The Innovation and Investment Week aims to accelerate investment growth in North Sumatra while strengthening the regional economy. It also coincides with Indonesia’s National Saving Day, serving as an effective promotional platform to enhance MSMEs’ competitiveness and economic resilience.
In addition to provincial officials, the UMSU booth was visited by thousands of students from various schools as well as members of the general public. The opening ceremony was also attended by Forkopimda officials, a number of regents and mayors, representatives of provincial government agencies, foreign consulates, as well as representatives from private companies, banks, regional enterprises, and state-owned enterprises.
