Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) and the Republic of Indonesia Film Censorship Agency (LSF RI) establish film cooperation, censorship, and socialization of independent censorship culture, to implement independent learning in the era of separate campuses. The signing of the MoU was held at the UMSU Auditorium – Jl. Kapten Muchtar Basri No. 3 Medan City, Thursday (17/3).
Establishing this collaboration is essential and related to film development in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic. The media for showing films deemed strategic as one of the public spectacles no longer only includes cinemas. Because it is Over-the-Top (OTT) streaming video media, almost all of which do not comply with the rules of the film censorship agency.
Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, remembers past film censorship in theaters, “I still remember, when there were clippings, it was compelling. But, until now, technology has been growing. It cannot be separated from film sensors and how to use them.” He hopes that collaboration with film censorship institutions can give students an understanding to be more competent in choosing shows.

The task of LSF RI is to protect the public from the negative effects of films so that the films shown are under the law and state philosophy. This task cannot be done alone and must be collaborative,” said Dr. Ahmad. He advised that development and change are a necessity. Still, something must not change, namely the shared responsibility for the nation and state.
