UMSU and Constitutional Court Sign Cooperation

UMSU Chancellor Prof.Dr. Agussani MAP and Secretary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia Prof. Dr. M. Guntur Hamzah signed an extension of the collaboration between UMSU – MKRI related to the higher education tri dharma program. Then, a Public Lecture by the Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Arief Hidayat SH MS.

The two agendas took place in the hall of the UMSU Campus on Jalan Muhtar Basri Friday morning (15/7). Specifically, the UMSU-MK RI collaboration is an extension of cooperation between the two parties. In the first collaboration between the Constitutional Court and the Faculty of Law, the extension was carried out between the University and the Constitutional Court. Interestingly, the signed partnership with digital technology lasts indefinitely.

Present at this activity were the ranks of UMSU Deputy Chancellors, UMSU Postgraduate Director Prof. Dr. H Triono Eddy SH MHum, Dean of UMSU, Chairman of the Center for Constitutional and Anti-Corruption Studies (Puskasi) UMSU Benito Asdhie Kodiyat MS SH MH, Chairman of North Sumatra APHTN-HAN Dr Eka NAM Sihombing SH MHum and hundreds of UMSU students.

UMSU Chancellor Prof. Dr. Agussani MAP, in his speech, expressed his pride and joy in implementing this activity. UMSU started collaborating with the Indonesian Constitutional Court 11 years ago. At that time, Mahfud MD led the Constitutional Court, and the extension of the collaboration between the University and the MKRI proves that UMSU was very serious about improving relations between the two institutions.

Smart Board Mini Court Room 

Previously, the Dean of the Faculty of Law UMSU Dr. Faisal SH MHum in his speech, said that the signing of this memorandum of understanding was a follow-up to the cooperation that had been established and would soon end.

“All faculties and students can utilize the collaboration between UMSU and the Constitutional Court within UMSU regarding the advancement of science,” said Faisal in his report. In the continuation of the collaboration, Faisal asked the Indonesian Constitutional Court to be able to implement information technology related to the Smart Board Mini Court Room application on the UMSU Campus to support institutional performance.

Faisal said that the Smart Board Mini Court Room could be used as part of the legal subject in seeking justice. Because in the development of legal science, legal issues include not only the organizers of the judiciary, the parties, and the legal proceedings but also the supporting tools that are presented in the element of seeking justice.

“We know that the Constitutional Court is currently actively developing Smart Board Mini Court Room facilities in several regions in Indonesia. Therefore, we offer ourselves that the Constitutional Court can consider UMSU as one of the places where the Smart Board Mini Court Room will be built,” said Faisal.

UMSU – MKRI, Old Friends

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia Prof. Dr. M Guntur Hamzah said that UMSU and the Constitutional Court were old friends who helped each other. Of course, the extension of this cooperation deserves to be grateful for increasing the roles and functions of each. Moreover, UMSU is a trusted big campus. Prof. Guntur Hamzah hopes that future cooperation between the Indonesian Constitutional Court and UMSU can be further improved.

Regarding the request of the Dean of the UMSU Faculty of Law, Dr. Faisal for the implementation of the Smart Board Mini Court Room, Secretary of the Constitutional Court-RI Prof. Dr. M. Guntur Hamzah agreed it could be processed.

Public Lecture on Citizens’ Constitutional Rights.

After the signing of the cooperation, it was followed by a public lecture by the constitutional Judge (also former Chair of the Indonesian Constitutional Court) Prof. Dr. Arief Hidayat. This public lecture was guided by the Head of the Public Relations and Domestic Cooperation Section of the Constitutional Court, Fajar Laksono Soeroso with the theme “Improving the Understanding of Citizens’ Constitutional Rights”.

In his presentation, Constitutional Justice Prof. Dr. Arief Hidayat SH, MS emphasized that the Indonesian constitution differs from other countries worldwide. The Indonesian body regulates all aspects of social, national and state life.

“So the Indonesian constitution does regulate not only legal and political issues, but also regulates other issues such as social, economic, cultural and so on. ” he said.

After the General Lecture material presentation, the activity ended with a question and answer session. Several of UMSU students were allowed to ask questions, and then Prof Arief Hidayat answered them. (SH)
