The Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) welcomed a delegation from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) as part of its Visiting Professors program. The event was held on Tuesday (May 8) at the Auditorium, Building B, 2nd Floor, and was attended by faculty members, students, and key stakeholders.
The four professors from UTHM—Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Rafidah Hamdan, Dr. Zalipah Jamellodin, Dr. Norhafizah Salleh, and Dr. Noor Azlina Abdul Hamid—participated as part of the ongoing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMSU and UTHM. They discussed academic development plans, research collaboration, and opportunities for UMSU students to pursue further studies at UTHM, Malaysia.
The event was officially opened by Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Engineering, Ade Faisal, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., who expressed appreciation for the partnership and emphasized its importance for enhancing education, research, and community engagement in both institutions.
“This visit marks an important momentum to deepen cooperation, particularly in student and faculty exchanges, as well as joint research in civil and environmental engineering,” he said.
The discussions also included an evaluation of the MoU’s achievements, strategies to strengthen future collaboration, and the sharing of information on scholarships, admission requirements, and potential research areas for UMSU students. Both institutions also aligned research themes to foster joint projects between UMSU and UTHM faculty.
Students from UMSU’s Civil Engineering Program warmly welcomed the event, especially the prospects of pursuing postgraduate studies at UTHM.
“I am very interested in UTHM’s postgraduate program, particularly in the field of Sustainable Construction. This event gave me a clear picture of the procedures and scholarship opportunities,” said Reza, one of the attending students.

Through this initiative, UMSU and UTHM aim to strengthen their collaboration, opening broader opportunities for students and faculty to grow and engage at the international level.
