Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) has entered into a partnership with the National Resilience Institute (Lembaga Ketahanan Nasional or Lemhannas) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU signing took place directly between UMSU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, and the Governor of Lemhannas, Andi Widjayanto, S.Sos, MSi, Ph.D, at the Captain Mukhtar Basri Street Campus on Wednesday, August 23. This collaboration pertains to the organization of education, research, community service in strengthening national insight, and the enhancement of human resource capacity.
The signing of the MoU was marked by a Public Lecture themed “Geo-Politics Versus Pancasila” delivered by the Governor of Lemhannas himself. In his lecture, it was explained that Geo-Politics is a mandate given by Soekarno when establishing Lemhannas to prepare national leadership.
Furthermore, the Governor of Lemhannas also discussed the demographic bonus and demographic burden that Indonesia will face in the future. Additionally, the topic of Indonesia being a maritime nation but not fully maximizing its ocean resources was addressed.
“If we do not manage this properly, the demographic burden will become a demand for us,” Andi stated.
Meanwhile, in his welcoming address, UMSU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, expressed that this series of activities is an initiative of the Faculty of Law and a result of the collaboration frequently practiced by UMSU.
“I extend my utmost gratitude. I hope that this visit will benefit not only UMSU but also Muhammadiyah,” Prof. Agussani said.
He hoped that the presence of the Governor of Lemhannas would enlighten the attending participants on Geo-Politics. Moreover, he emphasized that the MoU for cooperation, once signed, should not remain on paper but should be followed up through UMSU’s Faculty of Law.
During the event, Prof. Agussani also introduced UMSU as an accredited and outstanding university in North Sumatra with an Astronomical Observatory (Observatorium Ilmu Falak or OIF) and a Study Program in Astronomy.
The activity concluded with a discussion session and a group photo. Among those present at the event were UMSU’s Directorate members, Heads of Postgraduate Programs, Chairs and Secretaries of Postgraduate Study Programs at UMSU, Faculty Leaders within UMSU, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at UMSU, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at UMSU, and UMSU students.
