Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) successfully bought up four medals consisting of 3 gold medals and the best champion of 3 universities throughout Indonesia at the 2024 Student Organisation Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) Abdidaya event at the awarding night held at Udayana University, Sunday (10/11).
The medals won were one gold medal in the category of implementing teams with high fighting power, one gold medal in the category of student organisations with the most complete support, one gold medal in the category of teams with the most innovative work management and the third best winner in the category of universities with the most comprehensive support. The achievement was welcomed by UMSU students and accompanying lecturers who were present directly to witness the prestigious awarding night from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek).
UMSU Chancellor, Prof. Dr Agussani, expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the achievements of students in the Abdi daya PPK Ormawa event because this award is one of the most prestigious in Indonesia, especially in the campus environment. This award also shows that the UMSU campus is not inferior to other large universities in Indonesia as well as adding to the various achievements that have been achieved previously.
‘Alhamdulillah, congratulations to the winners. The creativity of our students is indeed very extraordinary plus high fighting power. This is proof that UMSU students are able to show their abilities at the national level and are also able to win various competitions in the national category,’ he said.
The medalists include the Social Welfare Department Student Association (HMJ Kesos) in the category of the team with the highest fighting power and the category of student organisations (Ormawa) with complete real support and the Agribusiness Student Association (HMJ Agribusiness) in the category of the implementation team with the most innovative work management.
Previously, Vice Rector III, Assoc. Prof. Dr Rudianto, M.Si, expressed his appreciation because UMSU again participated and was able to achieve the highest achievement in the prestigious Abdidaya PPK Ormawa event. He emphasised the importance of utilising the PPK Ormawa programme in the formation of soft skills and student character.
‘This programme is not only an achievement, but also as a formation of soft skills and character for us to care about problems in society. One of them is through this PPK Ormawa and Abdidaya programme,’ he explained.
The same thing was conveyed by the Chairperson of the UMSU Student Research and Creativity Center (SRCC), Dr Fatimah Sari Siregar, S.Pd., M.Hum. According to him, the achievement in the Abdidaya PPK Ormawa event shows the cohesiveness and extraordinary performance aimed by the team.
‘Hopefully, the achievements made this year can be a motivation for other national activities,’ she added.
Abdidaya PPK Ormawa is an appreciation programme from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research that values the contribution of student organisations, lecturers, and village partners in community empowerment. UMSU sent the four best teams, namely HMJ Development Economics, Muhammadiyah Student Association Faculty of Medicine, HMJ Social Welfare, and HMJ Agribusiness.
