Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, directly opened the routine recitation of Ramadan 1444 Hijriyah, Monday (27/3) at the UMSU Taqwa Mosque, Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3 Medan.
Ramadan lectures have been held every year. They were inviting competent speakers from Muhammadiyah to give lectures and brief studies. The academic community attended them to UMSU students.
In the first week, UMSU presented the North Sumatra Muhammadiyah Regional Leader (PWM), Prof. Dr. H. Hasyimsyah Nasution, MA as a speaker with the theme ‘Characteristics of Progressing Islam.’
UMSU Rector, Prof. Agussani, opened the Ramadan recitation with basmalah. In his remarks, he hoped that the month of Ramadan would be smooth in improving the quality of service and carrying out tri-dharma activities in higher education.
“This study has been prepared with specified speakers regarding Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah studies which are the subject of discussion. Let us enliven the scheduled Ramadan recitation,” said Prof. Agussani.
As a form of gratitude, the Chancellor of UMSU also reported that the Muhammadiyah Hospital had successfully carried out accreditation and obtained five stars.
Meanwhile, Prof. Hasyim, in his short lecture, said that the Muhammadiyah organization is synonymous with progressive characteristics. Therefore, it must continue to study to guide Muslims in a happy and joyful life.
At least there are five characteristics of progressive Islam, according to Prof. Hasyim, including Islam, which is based on monotheism, based on the Al-Qur’an and As-Sunnah, revives Ijtihad and Tajdid, develops Wasathiyah and manifests mercy to the whole world.
“Be good at everything and benefit others. Muhammadiyah wants to provide progressive Islam that benefits the people,” concluded Prof. Hashim.
The lecture ended with a question and answer session by the Dean of FAI UMSU, Dr. Muhammad Qorib, S.Ag., MA, and Engineering Student Regi Ramadan.
