UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP represented by UMSU Vice Rector III Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si welcomed the arrival of three students from Central Luzon State University (CLSU) Philippines in the SEA Teacher exchange programme on Thursday (30/1) at the UMSU VIP Room on Muchtar Basri Street No.3 Medan.
The three students will undergo an exchange programme for one month from January – 23 February 2025 and teach at Al-Amjad Islamic School Medan. Previously, two PGSD FKIP UMSU students Dwi Oktavianti and Fadhilatul Husna had carried out the SEA Teacher programme in the Philippines in November 2024.
UMSU Vice Rector III Assoc. Prof. Rudianto, in his remarks expressed his welcome in tagalog and also introduced UMSU as a superior campus that has been internationally recognised.
‘This SEA Teacher programme has been running for three times, and I represent the Rector to say that we are very happy to welcome friends from the Philippines,’ said WR III.
He also said that at UMSU, the students would get many new experiences, new friends, and of course enjoy the culinary culture in the city of Medan.
Previously, Dr Hj Dewi Kesuma, S.S., M.Hum., as the SEA Teacher PIC, reported that Filipino students had been in Indonesia since Sunday 26 January 2025. They will carry out teaching activities at Al-Amjad school with an adjusted curriculum.
“This is the third time UMSU has run a student exchange programme with the Philippines. We hope this programme continues to provide benefits for both parties,” he said.
Later, in his remarks, the Dean of FKIP UMSU, Dra. Hj Syamsuyurnita, M.Pd., expressed his welcome to the Filipino students.
“We appreciate the presence of CLSU Philippines students in this programme. Thank you to Al-Amjad Foundation for being a partner school in various other programmes. Hopefully this programme will continue in the future and can involve more study programmes at FKIP UMSU,” he said.
Then, the Head of Al-Amjad Islamic Foundation Medan, Fadhullah, S.E., M.M., also expressed his excitement over the arrival of Filipino students.
“We are very happy to be able to participate in this programme again. Our students are also very enthusiastic about this cultural exchange. We will try to provide the best support for CLSU students while teaching in Al-Amjad Junior and Senior High School units,” he said.
The three Filipino students participating in the programme are Ressandra Lyn V. Mozo from the Faculty of Agriculture, Samuelle B. Bernabe from the Faculty of Agriculture, and Rhanz Gerard G. Casingal from the Faculty of Physical Education. They expressed their positive impressions of the welcome given by UMSU.
“I really enjoy the atmosphere here, from the spicy food to the Indonesian culture. I hope to learn more and gain valuable experience at UMSU,” said Ressandra Lyn V. Mozo with fluent Indonesian.
In line with that, Samuelle B. Bernabe was impressed with the warm welcome from UMSU. “I feel overwhelmed by the extraordinary welcome from UMSU. The warmth and hospitality made me feel comfortable and excited to study here,” she said.
Rhanz Gerard G. Casingal also expressed his gratitude. “I really appreciate this opportunity. The knowledge I gain at UMSU will be a valuable provision for me in the future,” he said.
The welcoming ceremony was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UMSU, Dra. Hj Syamsuyurnita, M.Pd., as well as FKIP UMSU leaders such as PIC and Vice Dean I FKIP Dr. Hj. Dewi Kesuma, S.S., M.Hum. Vice Dean III Dr. Mandra Saragih, M.Hum and Chairman of the Al-Amjad Medan Islamic Foundation, Fadhullah, S.E., M.M. Also present were the Principal of SMPS Al-Amjad, Anry Gunawan Nasution, S.Kom., and OIC UMSU Chairperson Rafiqah Nalar Rizky, S.Sos., MA and staff.
