UMSU and Tapsel Regency Government Establish Cooperation

Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) established cooperation with the South Tapanuli Regional Government (Pemkab Tapsel). This collaboration was confirmed by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The signing of the MoU, which was carried out by the UMSU Rector represented by Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin SH MHum, and the Regent of South Tapanuli Dolly Putra Parlindungan Pasaribu SPt MM. was held at the Pacsarjana Hall of UMSU, Jl. Denai 217 Medan, Wednesday (27/9/2022).

This activity was attended by the Head of the South Tapanuli District Attorney Siti Holija Harahap, S.H., M.H., UMSU Postgraduate Director Prof. Dr. Triono Eddy SH., M.Hum, Chairperson and Secretary of the Study Program in the UMSU Postgraduate environment and several Heads of Service and other staff of the South Tapanuli Regency Government.

Vice Rector I UMSU, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, SH, M.Hum, explained that cooperation is one of the essential pillars that must receive serious attention from higher education institutions.

“Universities that will survive are universities with strong networks at home and abroad,” said Prof. Arifin.

On that basis, said Prof. Arifin, as a leading private university in North Sumatra, UMSU continues to build and develop cooperation with various stakeholders, starting from the regional, national, and international levels.

“At the regional level, one of the stakeholders who are UMSU’s cooperation partners is the Regional Government. Therefore, today, we are pleased to be able to establish friendship and build cooperation with the South Sumatra Regency Government,” said Prof. Arifin.

Prof. Arifin thanked the Regent of South Sumatra for being pleased to build cooperation with UMSU.

“Of course, this is an honor and a good opportunity to work together to provide benefits to UMSU and the South Sumatra Regency Government. We are optimistic that with this cooperation, the two institutions will mutually benefit from public legitimacy because they carry out tasks and functions oriented towards community development and empowerment,” he said.

Prof. Arifin further explained that the cooperation between UMSU and the Tapsel Regency Government is related to implementing the tridarma of higher education, especially in research and community service.

“Through this collaboration, we hope that the South Sumatra Regency Government will get an academic and scientific basis for the development it carries out, while universities will get a more grounded value of the tridarma of higher education in line with the concept of the Merdeka Campus,” said Prof. Arifin.

Finally, Prof Arifin hopes that this collaboration will not only stop on paper but needs to be implemented and followed up in concrete programs that benefit both parties.

“We hope that this collaboration is not just on paper but can be followed up with real action based on the principle of mutual symbolism,” Prof. Arifin said.

Meanwhile, Tapsel Regent Dolly Putra Parlindungan Pasaribu SPt MM welcomed the signing of the MoU between the Tapsel Regency Government and UMSU.

He said the Regional Government needs universities to identify, research, community service, implement a policy, and examine the region’s potential resources.

“In addition to requiring development in the regions, local governments also need cooperation in the education process and improving the quality of Human Resources,” he said.

“We hope that UMSU can assist the South Sumatra Regency Government in finding solutions in the development of economic, social, cultural, education, health, and government fields,” he added.

UMSU Postgraduate Director Prof. Dr. Triono Eddy SH MHum expressed his welcome to the Regent of South Tapanuli, Mr. Dolly Putra Parlindungan Pasaribu, S.Pt., M.M. and his staff who have visited the UMSU Postgraduate campus to establish friendship and cooperation.

“Do not forget also to welcome Mrs. (Cand Dr.) Siti Holija Harahap, S.H., M.H. As the Head of the South Tapanuli District Attorney’s Office and her staff, a big family of UMSU Postgraduate,” he said.

“We hope this collaboration will become a solid foundation for a long-term relationship between UMSU and the South Tapanuli Regency Government. We want to build close ties to continue to grow and develop together, “concluded Prof. Dr. Triono Eddy S.H., M.Hum.
