The two professors delivered scientific orations in their respective fields. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin Gultom, M.Hum, provides an in-depth understanding of ‘Characteristics of Arbitration Agreements in Business Dispute Resolution.
“Business transactions cannot be separated from the legal framework. The law was created not only as a guide for business behavior but also as a means of resolving disputes, one of which is the judiciary. Arbitration is a court that prioritizes a win-win solution, so it is called a peace court. The arbitration agreement has its own value and uniqueness compared to other agreements,” said Arifin in his scientific oration.
While Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhamamd Buhari Sibuea, M.Si was excited to write ‘Existence and Revitalization of Agricultural Economic Institutions in National Development. He emphasized the condition of agricultural cooperatives in Indonesia, “The only sector that can save Indonesia’s economic crisis is agriculture. Meanwhile, one of the agricultural institutions that still exists is a cooperative institution that has been passed down from generation to generation. Still, the existence of agricultural cooperatives in Indonesia is quantitatively very proud, but qualitatively, it is very sad, namely the lack of human resources to stakeholders, “said Buhari.
The badges were pinned on the two UMSU professors; the Chairman of the Central Leadership Research and Development Council (PP), Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Lincolin Arsyad advised, “Being one of the eight professors at UMSU is a big responsibility. The knowledge is not only for yourself. It must be passed on to others. Great teachers must also give birth to great teachers and guide others to become great teachers.”
Meanwhile, the Head of North Sumatra LLDIKTI Region 1, Prof. Dr. Ibnu Hajar, who also witnessed the inauguration, said that the challenge of a university is no longer its hard knowledge. Values are not a guarantee of success. Personality, characteristics, and soft skills are the determinants of success. He hoped, “Please make UMSU not only a window to the city of Medan, but a window to the world in terms of achievement, which is to become a World Class University campus,” he hoped.
Welcoming this hope, the UMSU’s Rector was grateful for the addition of two professors who could develop UMSU’s Human Resources towards Word Class University. He also explained that there are three more lecturers who are in the process of reaching professorships, and in the next six months, there will be UMSU lecturers returning from Australia and Thailand.
