The Faculty of Law, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (FAHUM UMSU) held a court clinical awareness and moot trial Wednesday (25/1) at the UMSU Auditorium, Jalan Mucktar Basri No. 3, Medan City.
Dean of FAHUM UMSU, Dr. Faisal, said that the students who took part in the awareness meeting would be deployed to three courts including the Binjai, Medan and Deli Serdang courts.
“Through this activity, students are asked to observe and analyze the court process, whether or not it is the same as the theory being studied. The assessment will be on how to apply and practice the results of observations in moot courts. So I hope you do not play games. You have to pay close attention to the judge’s position, style, and way of conducting the trial,” said Faisal.
Then, when releasing law students to carry out clinical and moot trials, Deputy Rect I UMSU Prof. Arifin said that as a law student, you should understand the dynamics of changing regulations so that students are correct.
Especially when conducting clinical trials, before dissecting cases, students need to see the law. Are there any changes to the law? Law students must keep abreast of the latest legal developments, especially since it has been made more accessible by the internet.
“Watch and Learn the whole legal developments because currently, the law is developing dynamically and rapidly,” he stressed.
Prof. Arifin also advised law students not to take this learning process for granted. Instead, he hopes that law students can maintain the good name of themselves and the university while conducting moot clinical trials in court.
The awareness was closed by symbolically pinning the clinical bet and moot court on the representative of the law student.
